How many hours for this shopping mall?

Hi all,

First time poster here but been in the business for a few years now. I’ve mainly done residential building and commercial building work but am now targeting council footpath work. To help me with pricing and making sure my estimates for the work hours required are within reason, how many hours would you expect on the following job:

*4000m2 (or 43,000 sqft for you yanks) of paved pavement in an open air shopping mall district
*shopping mall is a central business district right next to the beach with plenty of pedestrian traffic during the day
*no water onsite and degreaser to be used so full vac, reclaim and waste water disposal is required
*since there’s no water onsite I plan to reuse the reclaimed water over several times (truck fitted with a 3000L water tank)
*works is to be done at night and a silenced setup will be used
*I’ll be using a 20lpm (5.5gpm) hot water system with a 28 inch surface cleaner
*I plan to run over the area with a surface sweeper first to pick up the sand and debris, then I’ll hose it down with degreaser then I’ll come through with the surface cleaner and turbo wand for the gum residue

So how many hours do you reckon this job will take?

Thanks for the help and input guys.

Sorry, trying to get more pics.

Is that mall in surfers paradise QLD @bhap32? , im over in Darwin NT.
That job looks like a headache, I would avoid personally.
Pavers, sand, tables and chairs by the dozen, noise issues, reclaim, no availability of water etcetera…
How long do you reckon it will take?

I wouldn’t do that job…There’s always lower hanging fruit.

Gross. Might as well re-drink the same glass of tea while you’re at it

It’s been covered but that will dilute and weaken your chemicals. As well as putting dirty water onto a clean surface. I wouldn’t ever recommend this.

Yeah mate, it’s actually one job as part of a package. This is probably the worst job on the list

Well how else do you recommend that I can get through a shift without having to back to base to fill up with water? Too costly to hire a water truck and too time wasting to go back and forth between the base. Client wants us to use our own water.

I’d pass on this job. Client not providing water is an auto no. If they don’t have water that’s one thing.

True, I’ll talk to client and see if they’ll change their mind

I’ve had customers say they don’t want to use their water and it’s mainly because they think it’s going to cost an arm and leg. They don’t realize it’s going to cost them a heck of a lot more if they don’t provide water.

You can probably recycle but you’re going to want to filter real good. Do you have a recycling system? You’ll also want to go back over everything with clean water for a quick rinse. I think you’d be better off renting a water tank. You can get a 1000 gallon water tank for a reasonable price here in the States. Not sure what’s available there. Another option is picking up some IBC totes. You can find them used. You can then stage water in advance. The 1k tank would be easier though.

Are there any fire hydrants in the area? See about getting hooked up to it. You might be able to rent a water meter from your local township.

Not particularly sure why they don’t want us to use their water.

Yeah I’ve got a seven stage filter recycling system. This articulalr jo requires full recovery so vac everything up before we leave. IBC totes are reasonably priced here.

There are council standpipes which require us to rent a water meter but not sure if we can run those on fire hydrants. The standpipes are good 30min drive away though.

I’ll check with client and clarify this water supply query because its a logistical nightmare to cart water to site especially if you have multiple crews running

Your going to be there for a week with one 5.5 machine.
2 weeks if you have to reclaim.
And probably a month if you have no water source on site . Drop the idea of reusable water and find a water supply.
Here’s the other issue we’re are you planning on getting a $30000 reclaim unit from ? I’ve never seen anybody rent one before.

Ok that makes it a little better. I thought you were just planning on running it through a screen and then pushing grey water back through your pump. How fast is the recovery with that 7-stage?

You do mainly residential and commercial buildings. So you don’t do flatwork but you have a 7 stage reclaim system . Do you have a picture of it so we can better guage you time you’ll need to invest in this job ?

I plan on running two or three crews on this particular job. I own two hydrotek with reclaim setups and if need be will subcontract in a third crew. This job is a routine maintenance job so they want it cleaned multiple times per year.

I’ve done flat work in newly constructed commercial buildings on the floors prior to client handover/building commissioning but never done shopping centres or public footpaths. In the new building works, its open space no obstructions and all flat concrete so we kill it in record time but with this shopping centre/public footpath work there are all these obstructions in the way and a paved pavement.

I’ll talk to the client about finding an onsite water supply hopefully get an answer back from them soon.
