How long do belts last?

Was checking my belts yesterday and it got me thinking…how long do belts last? I have my 8gpm unit that I’ve put about 43 hours on this year and figured I should have an idea of whether or not to let it ride or just replace before next season to keep in the field replacements at a minimum.

Ibs has a post saying he tightens his every 4 or 5 hundred hours so I’m probably good :joy: sheesh.

3000 hours on my new machine, haven’t touched the belt

Mine last until I eat 1 too many cheeseburgers, then it’s time for a new one.

Treat yourself and buy one of these bad boys. They last forever and actually hold up your pants

I don’t think I’ve spent that much on belts in my lifetime!..

Buy once cry once my man. I think I spent 70 bucks but they last a decade :joy: maybe im flying high because I had a 3k dollar day today though so take with a grain of salt.

1600 on mine and they look fine.

Well this is good to know. I’ll still stock a couple just because 2 is 1 and 1 is none but I might stop checking my belts every startup considering what everyone’s gotten. Thanks for your guys input!

Wait, what??

Feeling like a Richie rich today :joy: business has been good

You were poor mouthing 2 weeks ago. that’s how quick things can change in this business. So what do you attribute the turn around to?

I could say positive thinking and visualization, but i would say its probably the 2300$ i spent on postcard mailers. That and getting a few key shoutouts on a local facebook group. I think i made about 3x from leads on the postcards and the last endorsement i got was from a really popular guy up here who has a nice following and that netted me about 7k in jobs. Its crazy what word of mouth and a good review can do when put in the right place. Ive really been trying to establish good relationships with customers for long term gains vs getting money from people just once and calling it a day and making sure people know that im doing that if that makes sense.

You’re right. One of the key things I ask people, especially the women, is do they have a neighbor hood FB page, and if so could they leave me a review on there. I’ve got a couple of neighborhoods where I have literally done every house that’s been done in them past couple of years based on that.

That’s awesome. I have not had a lot of people from the same neighborhood yet. I’ll keep chipping away at it.

I’ve noticed that people keep asking me if I’m a franchise or chain from down south a lot. Got that 2 more times yesterday. I don’t know if that’s helping or hurting :joy:

And ‘down south’ could mean Juneau.

Down south is code for lower 48. Kind of like bless your heart is f you in Texan :joy:

People really try and shop local and not have outsiders so it’s an interesting thought I hadn’t thought of before. Being seen as an outsider because my equipment might look TOO polished.

Congratulations, tooting your horn is expected but having a customer be your champion takes referrals to a different level. Most home/business owners want it to look good at least on some level, when I exceed their expectations (and you can see it in their face) getting them to refer business is easy in fact they want to be the guy who knows “that guy”. The corollary is true also, do a really bad job and they are happy to tell total strangers how big a bum you are.
