We use Square readers and are looking at buying iPads so we don’t have to use our iPhones while were in front of the customer. I wouldn’t want a customer to think I was txting some one when really I’m filling out their quote on my Invoice2go app on my iPhone, we also email every invoice and estimate so were paperless. Also we use PayPal through our website and of course cheques and CASH!

I use the Quickbooks iPad cloud application and the Intuit GoPayment system to take credit cards. It is less expensive than PayPal and Square and integrates right into Quickbooks.
We use quickbooks for our invoices and we are considering taking credit cards with Intuit as well. I think it is cheaper than a merchant account with the bank. I still hate the idea of paying a percentage to the credit card company, it makes me cringe… Although if it means faster payments than it may be worth it.
On a side note, I have a plumbing and drain flushing subcontractor who gives a 5% discount on any payment within 10 days of the invoice date.
He claims that it was painful the first year, however after a couple of years of price rises and with the increase in cash flow it is well worth it to get payed quicker! Something to think about for guys who are in a cash flow crunch!
We have considered this as well, since our spring rush usually drains our coffers and we are forced to dip into lines of credit waiting for slow commercial payments.
You guys that are accepting Intuit Payments. How do you figure that it is cheaper than Paypal or Square?
Paypal and Square have flat fees, no per transaction fee added. Also if you use Paypal you can get a debit card and get an additional 1% back on any purchases made.
Please explain why it doesnt look professional taking a credit card with your iphone?
There is nothing wrong or unprofessional about taking a credit card with an iphone. What is unprofessional is telling the customer you can not accept credit cards.
To be honest, I went out and got the Credit Card Readers because everyone wanted to pay by credit card and once I got them about 75% of my sales have been by check. Checks are a good thing. No fees to pay.
There’s nothing to explain. I feel that its not. If its what i had to do than it would be what I had to do but it’s not so i choose to not use my phone for a payment. Not knocking anybody who does. How you choose to take payment is your own business decision.
That was not my question. I can understand if you choose not to take payments on your iphone. That is your choice, and noone has a right to question your personal decision.
Your next sentance said that is was unprofessional. I was asking what made you feel that it was unprofessional?
Not sure if unprofessional is the right work but I know what he means. I think with a tablet it would just look more professional incase like I stated above that the customer might think you are txting when really you are writing up the invoice for them if they are in front of you. All comes down to how your relationship is with the customer.

I do not have a tablet, but wish I did. I feel that a tablet is a better option if you can afford one. It can serve multiple purposes and is much easier to share with the customer than a small screen.
I agree. I show customers before and after pictures on my phone of past jobs and it’s more practical for them having a bigger screen to be able to get the sale (job)
