How do you reach 50ft height ? Nozzle vs telescopic?

I’ve only used an extension pole twice before I figured out that thing can kick rocks. Don’t miss it one bit.

I bought an telescoping wand when I first started without doing my research beforehand and I’m just glad I didn’t do any damage to anything. They are incredibly awkward to handle even at half way extended. I put a yellow tip on it extended at 20ft and I just about did a backflip. Turn the nozzle a little and it shoots in the other direction. Once you finally get control of it as soon as you let off the trigger it slams down. Not to mention it was exhausting to use. It took me 8ish hours to wash my neighbors home, I pinched a nerve in my back and was out of work for almost a week. That was without a doubt the worst investment I ever made for my business. My X-Jet M5 can hit the same areas with a 4ft wand. If I would have done my research beforehand, I would have saved myself money and prevented an injury but I learned the hard way.

Be smarter than I was and DON’T buy any telescoping wands. I’ll bring a ladder and stand on that before I’ll ever use that garbage again.

Best place for that extension is in the trash or tie a fishing line to the end of it. Places that sell them should be fined for doing so…

You could reel the fish in and scale it at the same time!

I don’t see the difference between a wand and extension pole. Either way, you can do a lot of stuff. It may not make sense, but you can do it.

Well I guess the best way is the tried method of down streaming with high gpm

I think this is what he meant by extension pole?

he makes it look so easy… might be ok with a home depot 1500psi and a 40 degree?

An extension wand flexes and whips like a bass rod with a marlin on the line.

I used one and did a pretty good job of keeping it in control. It did however almost do a few backflips like you said. I think if you had garden hose pressure it might work as intended. 4000psi was a bit much for it. I put a turbo nozzle on it. Crazy times!

I have one… used it one time this summer for entrances at a school. Was windy as crap, and swirling in enteance ways… had to extend it up like 10-12 ft with jrod attached to get mix up there and get spider webs rinsed away.

It sucked, but was only for about 2 hours. Ill keep for emergency like that but will never use it willingly.

That’s because he is using Batman gloves to hold it…

I have the 24 ft Extension pole. I use it about once or twice a year to get a hard to reach spots usually in the wind, over a roof edge I can’t get from a ladder. At full extension it’s a bugger to keep steady. I Usually come close to breaking something. I’d take my extension ladders over the extension pole any day.

Stupid or not I would love to see you or someone else trying that X-jet attached to a 30 foot extension pole, whether with its M5 twist or jrod. Love this whole topic, I have to get oriented before I start the business, houses in my Country are many 3 floors +, close to other houses (spotting risk from the wind I assume), almost all of them are dryvit/stucco, so hotter concentration needed (even more spotting risk from the wind) I even started considering WFP with the brush on the tip, if SH can be sprayed somehow through it instead of the pure water. My mind is stuck.

Everyone that has owned a telescoping wand in this thread has said how awful it is. Whats there to be stuck on? I by no means am a “vet” in this business, but there are several here that have given good advice - none of which included the wand or a WFB. I would get an x-jet and stand on a 15ft ladder before I’d put it on the end of a telescoping wand.

Buy the nozzle and maybe a ladder. If you’re still having issues THEN get the telescoping wand.

After your first use of it make sure to return to this thread and update us on your experience. (what you broke, how you hurt yourself, and how you should have taken our advice :joy: )

Haha, Ok, I’ll return to this thread and update you guys on my experience, but I think I’ll listen to you guys, so if I don’t write back be sure I felt from the ladder :joy:

I seen a guy on youtube that seemed to do a very good job cleaning stucco with a WFB. I am not sure if it took him longer or anything else. I also think it was only two stories high. There are people that have used soft wash setups and poles to reach higher on roofs. It seemed as though it worked pretty well. I have only seen a handful of people who used it for siding. Those people seemed like hacks.

As for the extension pole. Those things are crazy like others have said. I am sure it has a use somewhere, but in 99.99% of my applications and the applications of others, it has been uneeded. It is also very dangerous to use. You can learn to control it, but a few hours of it can mess up your back for a week. It might be different with low pressure though. 100psi or less.

Your m5 x-jet should reach 3 stories. At 3.5gpm I was able to reach 3 stories up from the ground and apply chemicals. The peak of the 3rd story was a bit rough though. If you are concerned about over spray, rinse the ground before, during dwell time, and after like I do.

awesomewash2, Awesome, I think you saw Blast Away from UK I guess, if you have time you can check things they do, it’s crazy, he uses turbo nozzle on the WFP, and in one video which is called “clean your building ready for the big boss visiting? of course” he uses a small I think it’s 12" mosmatic surface cleaner high on the wall with the WFP. I think I’ll have to start with the M5 X-jet anyway, cuz it’s much cheaper than WFPs of same height reaching capability, and also for the higher proportion of DS that it can do so, thank you awesomewash2 and all of you guys for being great help.

I have only used the x-jet. It has been amazing and I highly recommend it. Most others prefer downstreaming. I have not tried this method yet. For stucco though, it seems most recommend an x-jet or roof pump.

I too have windows 3 and 4 floors high that need cleaning and have often thought about a directional pressure washer nozzle mounted on a mini non-human lifting boom lift or a camera crane

pw_crane_lift

does any one know if such an animal exists…?
