How Do I Choose a Roof Cleaning Pump?

Depends on what you’re trying to clean…kinda like asking what do you fish with…dynamite or hook & worm.

Primarily I’m wanting to do exterior sidings first… maybe venture into the roofs a little later.

I know usually a 1-2:10 ratio would clean siding here in Georgia… Would that be to much for the FatBoy pump? Or okay as long as I rinse at the end of every day?

The most efficient way to wash Southern vinyl is down streaming using a pressure washer. 12 volt pumps are great for roof cleaning, wood cleaning, or when you need a stronger ratio for concrete…basically chem application…not for washing houses, though I’m told some do, again in my opinion not very efficient.

What GuyB said.

I am understanding yalls thought process it I think… and i value your opinions and input…but with this being said can explain why you see the softwash crew spraying the sides of buildings in there video…correct me if im wrong but I believe a lot of them are from the southern states?

There is a difference between bleach drench and cleaning something.

The bleach drench approach can work for some cleaning but it does have its limits.

Okay but what does it have to do with the southern states?

I’ll play along. What does it have to do with southern states?

That is what i’m asking Tim4… I promise im not trying to be a butt… I just trying to expand my knowledge in this field… I am new to it or the soft wash concept and am currently asking alot of questions.

Charlie, you’re having the same problem that a lot of guys have…misinformation.

The term “Soft Washing”…it doesn’t mean that you have to use a 12 v pump to be able to do it. It can also and easily be done down streaming. The question of what and how has been asked and answered on this and other forums many, many, many times. Search for it you’ll find it. It’s even on YouTube,…search this forum…you’ll find your answers.

Okay… I will do some more research before I ask anything else. Thank you Tim4 and Guy yall have been great help!

Excellent article. Nice timing. I will be purchasing a pump in the next couple of weeks.

I just started washing houses a bit ago and while saving for a proper power washer I bought a Fatboy and a 1gpm setup for application then use fat boy to rinse. When I do big jobs I’ll use the Fatboy in all aspects. But for house this setup is working great for me!!

I’m a fleet guy but why not residential?
Guyb (or anyone), I have a heated 6/3500. The article that Thad posted said nothing about soft washing with downstream injection. Just wondering if when I pull the trigger on roofs, what are the pros/cons of a 12v vs down streaming with my current setup? The only negative I can think of is diluting my mix too much. Wouldn’t my my pressure help my reach?

You can’t pull a strong enough mix to clean roofs with downstreaming.

Thanks Thad. That’s what I was guessing.
