House wash expectations

Very rare to do a house wash in my area. But I did one as part of a patio cleaning. They were really happy with the job on the patio etc. but the client had said something about the window frames after I had rolled up the equipment. This is a stucco house with what looked like impact windows. There was just some loose dirt around the frames of the front windows. I think it came from above the windows when the wall/header areas were cleaned. I went ahead in agreement after I got paid and started up again and got closer to the window frames on the front area and with the forty five standing back went ahead and cleaned them up. I did some extra stuff on the front walkway etc. But I went away feeling like the client wasn’t thrilled with the house wash part of the job overall and maybe wasn’t quite sure what it involved to begin with. I did the job I cleaned with 1.25% down streamed etc. But sometimes the house or driveway isn’t that bad to begin with. But they want it done and the result doesn’t have the WOW effect.
The question that I have is: are windows part of a house wash? Because I was asked about that during an estimate on a job previously that I did not get and I think I told them that the windows themselves are not part of the job. But that I do rinse them etc.

We charge extra for hands on window cleaning, I tell them the frames will get softwashed but we have high TDS so spots on glass can’t be avoided. It never fails though, you go to rinse and dirt keeps running out of the sills.

We urge clients to remove screens when washing, otherwise debris will still be trapped behind and sometimes cause dirty leaks no matter how much you rinse. A lot of homes don’t have screens anymore. Either way, we wipe down any sills we can reach as we’re walking around home removing tape.

Not happening here unfortunately, half the time you can’t get the screens out without an engineering degree…or 25 years experience.

The screens in the new windows are nice, just push them up from out or inside.

dcbrock,I went on WCR forum to see if any window washers wanted to trade referrals. I specified anyone not competing with HW, got no responses. Also, saw a recommendation for using belay glasses, $15 on Amazon, have you tried/used them before?

These look close to what I have. I like them. Some wfp guys swear by others, but mine do the the job for the few big buildings I need them on a year.

Thanks, I’ll pick up a pair and see if they help.

I’ve used them for a while. Especially helpful on big jobs or when I forgot Advil. Most of them are made a little flimsy, so looking to get a sturdier pair at some point.

I washed another house. Stucco. QUESTION: I had light discoloration on painted areas around doorway. Pretty sure I screwed up the paint on that section. Now they had just bought the house and wanted the job done along with patio & sidewalk. The paint looked new or fresh to me around the doorway. So I don’t have pics of this but it looks like light colored lines on the paint which was a dark green. I showed them and they said don’t worry about it. And the rest of the house was fine. This was only around the doorway where it was green. I used 1.25 % maybe less 5GPM down streaming w/elemonator surfactant. So the question is w/regards to paint that is not that old or cheap paint or is there something I did wrong here.

Search organic pigments. Certain paints/colors (shurman Williams is bad this way on some of their colors/lines) have organic pigments and the chemicals we use kill organic things. Not a good combo.

Blue, red, green are the ones I remember to be concerned about.

Searching now!

It’s the green area around the front you can’t see the lines at that distance but they looked bad up close.
Nothing some paint couldn’t fix but who knows if there will be bad reviews.

Get it repainted. It won’t cost too much. Happy customer and no bad review. From now on don’t wash anything dark green with bleach.

I offered to repaint it but the client said don’t worry about it.
Now I don’t know if I should insist or what. Maybe send them a message, etc.

I would say it all depends on how they said don’t worry about it. If they looked guilty about asking you to spend your time/money, you should reach back out, and in the moment next time sincerely insist without being pushy that it’s fine. If they seemed like they really didn’t care then it may seem insecure of you to reach back out. I wouldn’t make them take you up on it though. If they don’t want it then that’s that and you tried to do the right thing.

If you do repaint make sure to use good paint and do a good job! The last thing you want is to ruin a well intended effort with bad work. It would be better to just not do anything at all in that case. Best of luck either way.

Appreciate that. yeah I sent the wife a text (I had started dealing w/ her) just to re explain and send before / afters of everything which they requested earlier. I just explained that the paint was a new style etc. but that I still offer to repaint. so far they’re ghosting me so I think you’re right in that they might care less than I do. Which at this point would be a good thing for me.

Just as an update to this thread I heard back from the client and she said they were going to repaint the area in question anyway. Hope all future clients are like this one. What a gem.

Never told my clients to remove screens.

Oh… i dont need to?
No, i foam.

Can you explain please.

Foaming
I foam.

What does that have to do with screens?
