House clean spots on wood deck

Dod a house wash for a neighbor who just had a new deck built 2 weeks ago. I wet the deck down (what i thought was enough), dod the house wash, then rinsed the deck first, the house, then the deck again.

this is what i was left with…i didn’t do enough rinsing i guess? What’s the best next step? Spray the whole deck with oxalic? Try to match the areas that aren’t brightened to match? And what do you guys do to prevent this?

How strong of mix were you using? Why do they have completely untreated boards? I’ve had plenty of decks look nice and clean close to the siding, but never bleached out like that. It really looks like way to strong of a hw mix. I’m at 0.6% for 95% of the houses I clean.

1.5%. The deck boards are 2 weeks old…just standsrd pressure treated. Recommendations on making it look uniform? Never had this happen before

1.5% is WAY too strong for a standard housewash. I only use that strength on bad gutters. You should be about half that, about .8%.

I’m like everyone else, why in the world are you using a mix that strong? Where did you learn that from? Whoever they are, they’re idiots. Plus it looks like you let it sit on there waaay too long.

Anyway, to answer your question, you can try using Ox on it. Won’t hurt. Or you could spray the whole deck again with a standard HW mix, about .8 and rinse to help it all blend in. Or go rent a sander and sand all that area. Or let it sit for a couple of years and it’ll probably blend in. Or you could take your high pressure wand if you knew anything about wood and clean of the now dead fibers. In your case, sander may be best option if the Ox doesn’t work. But basically, you bleached the snot out of it.

Remember Rule #1 in this business - do no harm.
