Hot Box hot to the touch?

Do hot boxes like this one get hot to the touch?

I am considering putting an aluminum sheeting for a sign and some equipment about 4-6 inches away from the drum part. Would that cause damage?

Yes, they get hot. There’s a flame thrower inside

6 inches should be fine

Yes they get hot, no they don’t spew forth flames that are 4-6 inches long.
