Does anyone use boxes like this? How much weight can you mount on the top? Hose reels?
Hannay 18" hose reels weigh about 50 lbs each with hose so I bet the top would eventually start sagging especially with the added force when reeling the hose in. If the top starts sagging opening and closing will become an issue. You could use some angle or c-channel and build a frame on the inside to help support the weight. I’d put a piece in each corner, two in the middle, and then run a piece across the top both in the front and back. It would also give you some structural steel to bolt the hose reels to. You might just be better off to frame something up for the hose reels on the outside of the box.
If you want them mounted up build a rack and hang them from it. I’m going that route to maximize my floor space.
I wasn’t sure how well they were built bc they don’t have them in the store. I was hoping to get 2x stackable reels on there. Looking at 300lbs plus hose. Didn’t know if it could handle the weight
You can probably get 2 side by side if you buy the right size reels. I’m sure that would work out ok. I dont know that I would try stacking them but if you reinforce it with something you might be ok. Only one way to know for sure! I’m definitely top mounting next year. It will save a ton of space.
