Honda IGX800

I can’t find information anywhere and figured I would ask y’all. I have a Honda IGX800 belt drive pressure washer. Is that engine supposed to automatically idle down when not under load? I completely removed the drive belt as a test, and it is still at full RPM at all times. I have seen videos where engine goes to idle when off trigger. Do you know what may be causing this? Thank you

I’m guessing that requires a special tune for the ECU. Honda might be limiting that capability to specific equipment manufacturers.

I’m hopeful that some genius will come out with some aftermarket tunes for these motors. They seem like they must have a lot of untapped potential.

You don’t want a pressure washer idling down, it has to pump bypass to the tank and it would screw with the unloader.

Mine doesn’t idle down. You can put a clutch on the pump but that’s just one more thing to go wrong.

Like IBS said, there are plenty of machines that idle down when in bypass with the clutch system.

I stand corrected, they don’t use those here, first I’ve heard of that.

It disconnects the pump from the motor, so no pump turning. It is rough on the pump though, but vendors have no qualms selling them.

What about running the engine at it’s lowest throttle position? Is that screwing up the pump?

What is the “self tuning regulator” supposed to do?

Nope. But you’re never going to be running your machine at low idle for more than a few seconds anyhow so it’s moot.

I dunno. I don’t like the engine. I’m using it on a skid because the engine was free.
