Honda GX630

Honda GX630. Brand new, zero hours. Flooding carb. Fuel filer is filling up with fuel. Will run a little bit with fuel either shut off or line disconnected. White smoke and occasional loud backfire. So I have a faulty carb or float right from the factory?

I’ve been there! You can swap it out or get a warranty repair six weeks later or get it running and send it. It sounds like an issue with the float or the needle valve at a glance. Just about every man you know over 70 will figure it out in a jiffy. Take it to them and bring beer.

GX630 may have an electronic fuel solenoid (fuel shut off) that is hanging up and not seating correctly. Along those same lines, if it’s just a traditional float and needle there may be trash in the fuel bowl, specifically the needle & seat area that is preventing the needle from seating correctly.

Taking it to an Authorized Honda Small Engine warranty repair shop is the correct answer as long as it’s still under warranty. But, depending on how quickly you need this unit and your level of YouTube mechanical skills you might be able to get this up and running real quickly. Just know that if you are planning to claim warranty, Honda won’t like you taking it apart and tinkering with it before bringing it to them.
