Honda gx420

I never ever heard of them. But apparently they are out there.

They have been out for many years. Those are iGX series engines. They use integrated ECU’s and have self-tuning regulators on the governor system.

Oh, yeah i remember now. I didn’t realize they did the small engine too.

I think you’re getting the small iGX’s confused with the larger v-twin GX series engines. To my knowledge the iGX was only available in a 340 and 390cc. Perhaps the 420cc you had found was a clone???

They go up to 800 25hp

iGX??? Show me please

Disregard I just found the 700 800’s

Yeah, quite pricey though.

They are also fly by wire.

One of the best features is that it’s fuel injected with an ecu, you can do so much with them to optimise for your working conditions, remote starts, load compensation, self idle control, different fuel maps for different power and torque applications better fuel economy. I would run one in a heartbeat if they were a bit more proven in the field and cheaper. Some might cringe at the idea of fuel injection but it’s a good thing.

There’s a reason why cars, bikes, quads, etc have all went fuel injection. I like the simplicity of a carb on a small engine but I’m sure fuel injection isn’t that difficult of a system once you’ve messed with it a few times. I have a 25 hp liquid cooled Kawasaki I got for $150 but is missing some parts. It has low hours so I’d love to get it up and going to give it a go. Will take at least $600 in parts but I’ve never heard it run so it’s kind of a crap shoot. If anything I wouldn’t mind throwing it in our golf cart.

I tried to buy one back in January and the sales guy for honda didn’t even know a 800 existed. Couldn’t even get price from his supplier. I wanted one for my 10 gpm unit

The 700 and 800 are only about a year old, the smaller igx engines have been around since 2006 I believe.

Generally speaking the fuel injected stuff is a lot smoother running, it would be quite the power plant for a golf cart, what hp do they normally run?

When I was selling engines in the Colorado mountains fuel injected engines were great for those working at varying altitudes. It wouldn’t be uncommon for a landscaper to mow one property at 5,800 ft of elevation in the morning and then make their way up to 9,000 ft by the afternoon, still using the same equipment thanks to EFI. If they had the standard carbureted engines, they’d have to change out the jets on the mower engines or adjust the jets on the smaller two-stroke ones. I don’t think the elevation change is likely a big concern on this forum or even this industry, but the optimization of the engine’s fuel consumption and its ability to process varying loads is great for just about any task you may think of.

EFI will be a common thing in small engines for sure, people were sceptical of fuel injected vehicles as well many moons ago now the carburettors in transport is obsolete. Even some 2 stroke dirt bikes are getting some form of injection systems.

We were told that the small engine industry is about 25-30 years behind the automotive industry.

The golf cart is older so originally had something like a 9 hp Subaru Robin engine in it. I think it’s a 1993. It lost compression so I slapped an 18 hp Duromax which is just a single cylinder clone type engine. If I go any bigger I definitely need to upgrade the steering components first. Those carts aren’t made to go 28 mph so can be difficult to handle on the road at times. I’m just glad they didn’t have a golf cart like that the two times I got drunk and went golfing…lol. I hit a porta potty at 10 mph so would definitely hate to hit it at 28. My buddy was in it though so would’ve been more than the splash he got.

Heck at minimum 30 years, were only just getting a damn fuel injector lol, it’s no foot race with Tesla :joy:

You probably don’t want to be the guy tearing up the green in a golf cart, you’d get all sorts of looks from the polo brigade :face_with_hand_over_mouth:. Ive seen a few videos of gx690’s in go carts, virtually undrivable.

This sounds very good!

I bought a Honda IGX700 just now recently, still waiting for delivery.

Any idea where I can do more reading about this subject? Would it be just plug and play? Or any special apps/controller where I get more access. A remote with different settings would also be nice
