Gx690 surging on idle

Had my machine run out of fuel on a job, filled it up again and kept working.

The next day I noticed that the engine works fine under load but after 5 minutes when I let my hand off the trigger it would start to surge like it was struggling.

I think there may have been some rubbish at the bottom of my fuel tank that I pulled in when it ran dry.

Any advice on where to start looking?

Pull the carburetor bowel and cleaning it out put it back on. replace fuel filter too. Should run find after that

Remove carb bowl, needle and seat. Clean, reinstall. Watch a couple YouTube videos on it and you’ll know what to look for… like not losing tiny little crucial pieces.

i usually just buy premium gas and it goes away after a short while.

My only concern was if it would hurt the motor if I kept running it. No problems under load just idle

Surging is usually a clogged carb needle…

I use to have this issue on my Briggs and Stratton engine… but my Honda has been trouble free

There’s some great advice here. After you get it running fine again, ethanol free gas really helps a ton. I’ve let my wife’s carbureted motorcycle sit for 6 months and it’ll fire right up.
