GX690 stalling on throttle up

My machine stalled out of nowhere today. It cranks up no problem but once throttleing up it stalls again. Im thinking fuel issue like the filter but I should mention that I ran it with the injector on by mistake pulling air for about an hour or two before this issue. I did the oil change on the engine and pump recently but didnt do fuel filter. Im hoping that’s all it is. Any ideas?

I think you are right to start with the filter. Its could be starving for fuel

How many hours on the machine?

Try running it with the gas cap off the tank.

This is the 690 I have a hole drilled in the cap of the gas tank

What’s the reasoning behind the gas cap and a hole? Or not having it on at all?

It’s not the fuel filter I just replaced and tried again. It starts no problem and idles but the minute I try to throttle up it stalls and the engine cuts. Any more ideas?

Well, could be a coil issue or spark plug needs changing. After that I guess a carb clean or replacement. I haven’t messed with mine but typically a carb has a drain bolt at the bottom of the bowl, put a cup under it and see if a lot of gas drains out.

I did the plugs and fuel filter today I also tried running a different batch of gas which is Rec 90 (ethanol free) that I always use Still same problem I’m consulting AI and getting some further steps to investigate but somebody on here might have had the issue. I wanted to mention the machine was getting water on it while I was working. And this has happened a lot before. Intake connection to the Hudson valve is not great and it sprays water all over the back side of the machine.

for a marine tank it prevents the tank from blowing up like a football

My money is still on the carb. How many hours?

you could always try the fuel cutoff solenoid. make sure its clean and not sticking.

It’s only got about 360 hrs on it

I’m going to be looking at that ASAP

Tanks need to be vented to flow because it allows air to enter and exit the tank, maintaining pressure equilibrium and ensuring a continuous flow of liquid by preventing the build-up of vacuum or excessive pressure that could impede the liquid’s movement; without a vent, the tank could fail to empty or be unable to fill completely due to pressure imbalances.

The problem is solved. I did test the fuel cut off solenoid, and it checked out. But while running the machine more I believe the old gas ran out of there and that was the problem. While testing the gas I didn’t let the old stuff run long enough. It’s running like a top now. I replaced the fuel filter and plugs and after testing I also noticed that the flywheel and coil magnets had a lot of surface rust on them. So I spent some time today getting that rust off as best I could on those points. From now on I keep the machine covered and I hate to say it, but I’ve read here on this forum that a lot of people don’t cover their machine so that’s why I wasn’t doing it as much. Again, that wasn’t the problem but eventually it would have been a problem starting.

Makes sense why mine has a vent in the lid. Is that just 690? My 390 doesn’t have a vent. May not be sealed completely tight and is mounted to the engine.

The GX390 fuel cap is also vented

Don’t overfill your gx390 tank……it will get the carbon filter in the gas cap clogged and will shut the motor down……

I feel like I need to read more threads on maintaining the engine and troubleshooting.
