Gutter Guard - Not What Think

I watch the Idaho Painter’s videos from time to time. He demonstrated what I think is a cool product for protecting gutters and keeping a ladder from slipping sideways. If you put ladders against gutters this might be a good fit for you.

A bull horn is much safer, doesn’t touch the gutter, and won’t slide.

is that a stand off from the wall, or a stand off from the roof? Hard to tell from picture.
I assume it is stand off from the roof.

It can be either one. I put tennis balls on the ends

I looked at the video, it looks like it would be very effective for putting it against a wall, not sure it has the stand off for the roof. There are lots of similar products to the bullhorn but most of them are pseudo permanently mounted to the ladder (that doesn’t work for me doing shutters) so what you are recommending might work. I just thought the gutter guard looked effective for protecting the climber and the gutter without a permanent mount.

get one of these. Clips on in seconds, and actually designed for roof placement. Most stabilizers will work on the roof, but aren’t really designed or OSHA approved for that purpose.

Also, I have seen so many gutters that I would not trust putting my ladder against, even with a protector.

I got the Ladder-Max for exactly those reasons. I hate it. I called them up and they told me it is supposed to move?! I can’t stand the thing. I’m back to using the cheap one.

I just ordered one. Looks like a great idea for when you are just using a ladder for roof access but I’d still prefer the stand-off for working from the ladder.

They are death traps. Plus, it puts the ladder to far away from the roof to step onto the roof to clean gutters

I primarily use my extension ladders for staining shutters so I have to be closer to the work and the regular stand off type devices don’t work for that and since I am on the side of the window one of the arms would be in the center of the window. That seems like a bad idea…
If I could mount it below the window and still get up high enough it would work be now I have changed the balance point so I’m not sure if that would work. I might try the bull horn and rest it on the window sill (they are all brick sills here).
