Gutter Cleaning Season! $100/hour?!

I just told a guy the same thing yesterday in a message that this video shows. He was inquiring about which guards we used. When you have experience with something through trial and error, you know where they’ll work best. Just because they have problems on steep pitch doesn’t mean they have the same problems on slower pitch. Besides, all products arn’t created equal, and we don’t use the ones in the video. Belowis my message to him from yesterday.

“They’re Shur Flow. I’ve installed about every kind available at one time or another, and these are the most dependable. Pine needles are the toughest for any gutter guard. They make some with a fine mesh screen to combat pine needles, but after a while the screen gets dirty and doesn’t let the water through. I’ve seen newly installed mesh type guards on steep 12/12 pitch roofs, and the water just deflects off and over the gutter. They work better on slower pitch roofs, until they get dirty. By far the Shur Flow is the most dependable we install around here. I pick them up from a local roofing supplier. You may be able to find them or a copy thats pretty much identical from ABC Supply, or maybe Roof Depot if you have one in the area. You can also order them from Ebay or Amazon.”

The ones we use also have there problems on 12/12 pitch, but there’s lots of houses that aren’t that steep. Though the claim is that debris dries up and blows away, it’s not always the case. We still try schedule light maintenance once a year, to blow off the surface of the guards. Your talking ten minutes with a leaf blower as compared to cleaning jam packed wet debris from clogged gutters multiple times a year in some cases. Still more affordable to a homeowner. Once the leaves quit falling, I’ll try to remember to take a video of the process on a house that’s had them installed for several years. Heck, I’ll even take a guard off to show the inside of the gutter. I stand behind them because I know what works from on the job experience, not by relating one faulty product to the rest.

Gutter guards like what we use have tons of quality reviews, from people that actually have experience with them.

Did a $99 gutter cleaning add on with a housewash today. Took me 36 minutes and this is how they came out with my double sided turbo nozzle gutter cleaning attachment. They were packed full of mud and sticks. Owner hadn’t cleaned them in 3 years! You can see on the deck everything that came out of them.

What machine do you use with your gutter cleaning attachment? I have the same attachment with the double turbo nozzle and can get pretty dirty. I’ve been using a 5.5gpm with it and seems to work well.

I’m using my 8gpm machine but the attachment only allows about 5-6gpm of flow. If I upgraded the nozzles on each side I’m sure it would be even faster. But I’m content for something I only use 20-30 times a year.

Got on a 7/12 roof yesterday to clean (bleach) and all went well but my downslope shoe kept sliding enough to be uncomfortable. WISHED I’d known the slope so I would have packed those Cougar Paws with which I was recently blessed. Probably would have made the difference. I checked out that link, and those gutter guards look really good. Might consider installing for $5 per foot. Thanks for the insight!

Thank you, Brother. They’ll be in my truck tomorrow!

Also keep an extra pair of pads SH really eats at the pads and you usually won’t notice until you step on a roof and the foam falls apart

The lady at cougar paws is awesome. They track your purchases. I just call a few times a year and tell her I want 3 sets of pads for all my boots. She has all the sizes on her system and I don’t have to dig thru trucks or lockers looking for shoe sizes.

Thanks for that! I will order several replacement sets.

Could you share that number? I’d like to give her a call.

That’s me rockin’ those Cougar Paws for the first time. They stick like the dickens, which I love, but I discovered why I wear size 14 boots. OUCHY! Nonetheless, these things rock. NOW, if they’ll just sell me a pair of 14’s, which I don’t think they even manufacture, I’ll pay this fine gift forward to someone here who wears a size 13. THANKS @Innocentbystander for this incredible gift!

Looking good - I have been thinking about the cougar paws but I have super wide feet. How were they on width?

By the way I like the gloves and glasses, do you normally run a respirator? Roof mix messes me up without one.

Nah, I don’t really get that close unless I’m shooting from the ladder.

Cougar Paws ordered for me and my roof guy with extra pads. Any size 13 wearers need a blessing?

That didn’t take long lol. They are in South Virginia so it won’t take long for you to get them

::raises hand:: could definitely use them up here in Vermont doing gutters before the season ends.
