Gutter Cleaning Season! $100/hour?!

The best gutters are no gutters. We only have a few properties that have gutter guards and I’m slowly dropping them. Gutter guards are about the worst thing to have, short of having gutters to begin with.

Gutters are good for carpenters. An old carpenter friend of mine once told me that gutters and window screens are his friends because they both trap water and cause the wood to rot

Gutters (or lack of) must a regional thing?

Where I live, every single house has gutters (we call them eavestrough). I think it’s actually a government building code requirement.

On my house I have gutter guard covers installed, They’ve been on for 4 years (since we moved in) and no problems - nothing stuck in or to the covers and no debris in the gutters themselves. I have LOTS of trees on my property so maybe I’m just lucky.

Cleaning gutters is a mess, but $$$$ everytime they request it.

We tell our clients that no gutter guards are maintenance free, but the right ones keep gutters flowing for much longer. We too clean gutters with guards on them. We usually only have to remove one or two guards on the ends and flush them. I can see your theory on not collecting the cleaning fee yearly, but we still get plenty of gutter cleaning calls, anyway. People only get roofs once every 25 years or so, but we still install several a week. We recommend our guards to people that need them. People that have to have there gutters cleaned multiple times a year due to deciduous trees on their property. With guards they can keep their gutters flowing with a quick bi yearly flushing. People that let their gutters get completely full that have gutter guards, likely have not done any maintenance at all for several years.

Thanks, Brother, but I wear a size 14.

Regions with limited yearly rainfall and hillbillies don’t have gutters. Florida is the exception, but their sandy well draining soil doesn’t allow water to pool around their homes.

Don’t really see the need for name calling, or whatever that was. I guess you install gutters or guards or something. Keep it civil.

Sure thing, though I wasn’t actually name calling anyone in particular, and maybe you should should stick to giving advice that you actually know something about.

I looked at them this afternoon and they are actually 13’s if you want to try them. They send me oddball stuff. I have a prototype of tennis shoes roof roof shoes that didn’t make it to market. Your feet pull out of them.

You bet I do. THANK YOU SIR!!!

I’ve cleaned gutters for 20 years and built houses as a general contractor
Plus I have some common sense. I guess your toes got stepped on if you are selling them. Maybe you need some steel toed roof boots lol. Feel free to give whatever advice you like. Most here are smart enough to know what’s up. Just ease off on calling folks hillbillys or anything that isn’t civil.

Send me your address again.

I’ve replaced more facia board because of gutters than I care to think about. So based on that they’re a liability more than an asset. If the property owner has his yard drained correctly water should be no problem. Of course asking someone who installs gutters if they’re necessary is like asking a lawyer if you think you should sue

You’d think 20 years of common sense would tell you that no gutters = flooded basements and other problems. I guess some folks are just slow learners.

= poorly designed foundations and property drainage. Just saying :smirk:
