I’m trying to use a 35 gallon water tank to feed by 5.5 gpm pressure washer. I hooked up a 1" non collapsible hose but no water went to my machine.
Does anyone know if this is too small a tank for gravity feeding? Everything I see online is the big 200 gallon tote and I am wondering if my tank is just too small.
Separately, I am trying to secure my 5.5 gpm machine to the bed of an F250. Any advice, tips, tricks, knowledge?
Thanks in advance. I’m just starting out and am realizing I am in over my head.
When I first set up my gear drive I had the same issue. I took the 1 inch hose off the inlet at the pump and used a garden hose to force water in for a few seconds. No problems since. Also, I run 6.8 GPM with a 30 gallon tank.

35 is fine……you have belt or gear drive?
Did you force it with the machine off? Did you start it while doing it? Having not started mine yet this is good information to have as I’m hoping to test run this bad boy
Machine off. It just primes the pump so it can pull water.
Another tidbit for you… Get yourself a Hudson float valve install kit from Pressuretek & keep it at the ready, unrestricted as a secondary source. I could have spent half my day waiting on the buffer tank to fill today but instead I spent 3 minutes running a second supply hose to a second spigot. Crappy flow is out there. I went from ‘not near enough water’ to ‘hurry so the tank doesn’t explode’ in a jiffy.
I actually tried with the machine on and now realize my mistake. Thanks so much for the replies and knowledge, Mr Wizard!
Do you think the type of 1" hose you use to connect from the buffer tank to the machine matters?
1” non-collapsible is what most use. That’s what I use for my 8 gpm, my 5.5 gpm I have 3/4” but 1” is fine too.
Anytime sir! I’m using 1 inch spa hose from Lowe’s. No complaints.
