I’ve been using Google satellite to meaure lots of jobs but lately I feel like I’m missing something when measuring roofs. Just an example, let’s say I have a 1600 sq ft house that I find the sq ft online and from the owner and its totally accurate. But the roof is 2000 sq ft when I use Google satellite to measure. Does anyone else have this issue? Am I missing a factor?
Soffit, pitch, and general margin of error in the software and mapping data?
Perhaps but its pretty easy to navigate. Its just right click and measure. And it’s a birds eye view so I don’t know if it takes into account the pitch.
I know the little geo programming I’ve done had a margin of error, don’t think they’d disclose it though. It’d be interesting to check it against a flat surface you can actually measure accurately IRL.
Could measure a football field in your town to find the accuracy

Square footage is typically measured using living space. The additional sq ft that you come up with probably includes the attached garage.
