Google Local service ad

Anyone here use them? I like the simplicity but the charges seem to pile up and this year I’m getting lower end calls / jobs. Half of them I’ve been turning down (like clean only one side or a walkway for 10 min) so I’m thinking of cancelling them.

Got charged 500 per month and this year seems to be more.

I’m newer and started using them but have only had one message with a $30 cost in the past 2 months. Responded quick, had some dialog, and got a response a week later that they were going with someone else but going to keep my info in their rolodex for next year lol. I only have about 15 reviews and am in a competitive area.

Google Search Console has been way more successful and better data analytics. Problem is Google is pretty scammy with not following through with their promo offerings. They owe me $1,000 due to a glitch on their end and after a dozen support tickets, they only offered $150, then never even followed through on that.

All of these advertising models seem like scams with their “Algorithms” deciding how much to charge. Only reason I’m doing these is since I’m newer, I don’t have the word of mouth yet.

Tried a Facebook boosted post for the first times a few days ago. Some clown responded to the ad with his landscaping company info and cost me $10 in the first 10 minutes. The following day, got a $10 message to my ad from my mother that was just a short clip of another pressure washing company’s short promo video.. Business account is linked to my wife’s account with her maiden name displaying and I’ve never had facebook. Since my mom most definitely didn’t send the message, I suspect they are messing around with BS with people that are frequent interactors of business with boosted ads. Only have 80 or so followers in the Facebook business page currently.

I’m not sure if it works the same as other ads but I think the more competitors the more they charge per lead and that would explain the rising costs…more new washers this year than the last few years.

I’m small right now so I’m trying to contain cost so I may just turn it off right now since I have enough word of mouth.

It is definitely based on competition, I’m just not very trusting of big corporations lol. My home county is a bit rural and my LSA budget is set at the recommended $270 a week, which doesn’t get used. I looked at venturing into the neighboring county which is much more competitive and densely populated, they recommended $3,500 a week lol.

Don’t use Local search. You can’t put negative keywords in. Find someone to setup a real search campaign with long tailed KWs and negative kw’s. The more specific your search the cheaper it is and more targeted. Example - ‘Driveway cleaning’ versus ‘remove mud stains from my drive’. Substitute oil, algae, green, etc… Which one is more targeted and likely in need of something specific. The driveway cleaning may cost you $20 or more if someone clicks on it, where the other may only cost you $2-3.

Local Search makes it easy, whereas to do it right you may spend several days getting it set up. And then a few hours/month reviewing to see where your traffic is coming from, maybe changing some ads, etc. But after awhile you’ll have something that works and is costing you pennies on the dollar compared to a generic local search. Plus you can specify your exact radius you want your ads to show.
