Going with mini-UDOR pump for back up PW

I have a kitchen hood vent job I’ve done the past 6 years once a month that I use a Northstar gx160 with a 2.5gpm cat pump. The unloader finally went on it last night but I was 95% finished so all was good. The replacement cat pump is $350 but I hate that the injector and unloader are built into it. I decided to go with this mini Udor pump to bolt onto my gx160. This is a 5.5hp engine and the math at 3gpm x 2500psi/1100 = 6.8hp so a little worried there. The other cat pump was rated at 3000psi 2.5gpm and did fine all those years. I’m sure my psi will end up lower. I run hot spigot water through it with a turbo nozzle to clean the hoods with purple zep straight…works great. These pumps are rated for 160 degrees and most restaurant water is 140-160. I know running hot water through a pump is not recommended but have been doing it for years and only once a month at this point.

This is also my back up to my 5.6gpm machine so I figured I’d go with a great pump in Udor over a cheap Comet or even a General. Anyone else running direct drive Udors? It’s only $15 more than a comparable General with a 3/4 shaft.

I think, if you are happy with 2000 PSI at zero hose length minus pressure drop from the hose that you use than go with the Udor.

I actually only use 50 ft of hose with this PW as it’s a portable unit so the pressure drop won’t be much. I was surprised that Udor even made pumps this small. I know some people may figure why waste money on such small PW but I tried my 5.6 and it’s way too much flow for cleaning hood vents (for this job anyway)…less water is good in this case as the degreaser does 90% of the work and less to clean up in the kitchen. I’ve used this PW to soft wash homes as a back up…painfully slow but it’s ok as a back up.

I hear you! Sometimes less is more!

Huge Udor fan! Ran direct drive udors and never really had one fail… They just got old and I replaced…
