Getting back into window cleaning

I dunno what I’m doing… but I’m gonna find someone who does! The Alamodome would be an awesome portfolio project!

Also, one of my property managers called and asked if I would go bid the windows on 3 large commercial properties. I told them I subcontract window cleaning, but all the window cleaners I’ve had flake 100% of the time. Just a matter of time. They said they don’t care how I do it as long as the cost makes sense.

So… effectively immediately I’m back into windows. This business is weird.

I think Luke might be too busy for me. I tried to get a bid for 5 or 6 really large city apartment buildings from him because the PM company wanted a bid to wash around $26k worth of stuff over 2019 and then they wanted windows.

Never got the bid. Which is all good… it was probably another $20k in window cleaning. A ton of work.

Still don’t know who they got for windows. Luke’s YouTube channel is better than mine. I wouldn’t want to put my gritty, upside down YouTube evil on him. Lol

I’ve been through this same dilemma… (I do exterior only WFP.eassy) I’ll get a great idea of doing insides as well. 10 minutes in I tell myself your an idiot

I’d love to add on complete windows, can really raise average ticket. Think I’ll wait until mid summer, when I can buy a Ford Transit, and try and find someone with experience.

Large job like that man, might want to think about it a few times before committing lol

Nvm, I see you plan on hiring an employee with experience

I’ll be fine. Never really been one to blindly fear things that just look big and scary to others, but are actually pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things.

Thanks though.

@squidskc too bad you are not in my area. We could clean all the jobs you need. But it can be learned in a few weeks at least. Maybe 3 months to be a well rounded window cleaner.

Didn’t you start as a window cleaner first ? I thought that’s what I remember on wcr , I could be wrong though

I dig your operation. I’m not sure there are too many like yours in my area minus the window genies and Fish.

I wish we had some Deans. Maybe I just haven’t found them. I’ve been through 6 window cleaners in 3 years. Maybe it’s me…

@Genaroguzman I wouldn’t say I started as a window cleaner, but it was a service I offered my first year to fill gaps on the calendar. Essentially I cleaned windows my first year part time.

For the last two years or so, I just subcontract them, but I am a dues paying member of the WCRA

Actually meant to ask you weeks ago, but when it comes to pressure washing, what are you guys get tasked to wash mostly out west?

Am I wrong in thinking there’s not really a big algae issue where you’re at? I’m try to move to Colorado and not completely sure what I’d wash out there except concrete.

So from what I have seen there are only a few bigger operations in my area that just wash for a living. They all seem to be pretty heavily geared towards concrete. I asked one about downstreaming sh and he had no idea what I was talking about. People wash houses here but not because of mold or algae, mostly because they get cobwebs and just general dirt on them. So it’s never a need to clean your house, mostly personal preference. We don’t have HOA’s that tell people to wash their house. As of right now I use my window customers to add on pressure washing to. That’s where I seem to get most of my work. Also when they contact us initially and look at our services they see house washing and it’s like they realize they can have that done too but it wasn’t on their mind to begin with. High desert is a harder area to build a pressure washing company but not impossible.

That’s good intel.

Been thinking about adding exterior windows also. Do not want to step inside the house at all. Only thing that worries me is screens… moving them up and down to get to the other pane. What happens when it’s stuck? what happens when there is Storm windows in front of the windows?

I was out in CO working when they legalized cannabis. You could have made a killing with a hot water machine offering $5 baths at the rest stops full of hippies!

I make customers remove screens… and I don’t do storm windows. Where I am storm windows are rare

If they want screens washed I tell them to stage screens leaning up against the garage door,

Easy money without the headache.

And customers are pretty happy

They just legalized it medically in MO by a huge margin and I’ve had a bad hip for years. Ha!

I don’t care too much what anyone tells me to do if I’m not hurting anyone. But also, another reason I want to move west. I’ve never posted a single picture of any firearm I own minus a hunting rifle. They can come find the rest if they want.

Wyoming would be ideal… Lowest taxes in all the country. Business friendly as all get out. Lower population in the entire state than Kansas City metro alone.

That is stupid… I have been on thousands of rescue calls in my life and all the ones relating to pot vs alcohol I would choose to be around a high person.

High people don’t want to fight or shoot people… Drunk people do!
