I was thinking of replacing my current pump with this one. I know it’s gear driven and not belt driven but i can’t swing a new machine at the moment. My current pump/ unloader setup can’t be bypassed, the General Pump EZ4040G looks like it can be. I’m wondering if anyone has any experience with this pump, good or bad? Can it be bypassed etc
I started with one, it was Okay for starting out.
However, if you want a good gear driven pump- buy a UDOR cost a little more, but you can almost get the life of a belt drive pump out of it. My pump/gear drive just wouldn’t die, hell I sold it and the new guy also ran it hard and I gave him years of work
What motor are you using, and are you doing strictly house washing or concrete too?
It’s a Simpson 4gpm 4000psi machine. I’m not sure what engine that it comes with. Just house washing not much concrete around here. I’m hoping after this coming season I can get a belt driven 5.5 machine but I can’t swing it right now. I’m just really tired of having to be on the trigger every 45 seconds and want something I can bypass. From the picture it looks like I can but I don’t want to buy it and find out I can’t, so I was hoping someone knew.
Yes, that pump model has two 3/8-19 BSPP-F outlets.
I ran one for over a year & it still works fine. It’s a direct drive pump. I know I’ve let mine run for 2 minutes many times while off-trigger with no issues. I always had a spare pump in the tool box so I didn’t care to ride it hard & put it up wet. Personally, I wouldn’t bother messing with a buffer tank until you’re ready to make it count (stronger engine, higher GPM gear / belt drive pump). Otherwise this pump will give you the same 4gpm performance you’re getting now. Probably best to save your nickels & head back to the drawing board to plan for a more all-inclusive upgrade when the time is right.
You can certainly get a 5.5 gpm pump for that machine if you’re only doing housewashes.
