Gave up on the Town job…

For those of y’all who’ve read my post for the past few years know that I’ve always been reluctant to leave my full-time job of working for the local municipality. (And, if you were going to state that I’m known for being stubborn and stupid for refusing to upgrade to real commercial equipment, well that’s also correct!) I started the wash business as a side hustle to help compensate for some extra bills that the full-time job couldn’t cover. The town has great benefits that I just couldn’t pass up - free health insurance for me, reasonable insurance for my family, great time off (both vacation and sick leave), and more. Working outside in Parks & Sanitation Department essentially had me as a glorified grounds keeper, which I enjoyed a lot. But I wasn’t moving up the ladder, and it wasn’t due to not being qualified. Simply put, I was waiting for people to retire before their positions would open up, and I just got tired of waiting after nearly 5 years.
So I went a different avenue and pursued something I’ve wanted to explore for years now but was too afraid to take the leap. I put in my notice to Parks & Sanitation back in early October and worked my last day with them Oct. 27th.
Well it’s been a few months and I’ve officially made it through the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy as of March 15th and I’ve started my career as an officer with the town’s PD. My time served in the state retirement system transferred and I was able to keep my accrued vacation/sick days. The schedule is certainly different with rotations between nights and days each month, but I receive multiple full days off each week which has allowed me to tackle my house washes during the work week -and with pollen season in full-swing here I’m quite busy! But I believe I’m able to work it so that I can have my weekends free(er) to spend with the family.
I hope everyone is having a good wash season so far, or for you northerners I hope you are all geared up to start your seasons off real soon.

Hahaha, I don’t know about the mustache, but my two months at the academy was the only time I’ve been clean shaven in about 4 years or so. I’ve now resorted back to growing the hair on my face back out.
