I know there have been quite a bit of threads about it, but i’m getting ready to do my first gutter job and wanted to make sure I have all of my ducks in a row.
After reading some other threads it seems that mixing 1 gallon (20:1) into a 5 gallon bucket and brushing it on is the way to go.
I know I need to pre-soak and post-soak everything, and it sounds like I don’t want to leave a lot of dwell time on the gutters so I don’t strip any paint.
What type of brush should I be using to apply the F13? A large sponge? a soft bristle hand brush? hard bristle?
Any information to help me avoid screwing up my first gutter job would be very much appreciated.
Thanks
Also any input as to roughly how many linear ft. of gutters a gallon of the mix will get me? I realize all jobs are different but a rough idea would be good to know.
I just went ahead and took matters into my own hands. It seems like 20:1 might be a little too weak. Another established guy goes with 15:1. F-13 doesn’t do very well in low temperatures. It’s gotta be above 60 degrees. The hotter the temperature, the shorter the dwell time. F-13 basically takes a small layer of the paint off removing any mildew with it… The more a gutter gets cleaned with it, the higher risk for taking the paint off.
I went to home depot and got a 23’ painters extension pole and an 8" nylon soft bristle brush. It seemed to do pretty well. It’s definitely a good arm/shoulder work out. sounds like $1 per linear sq ft is the going rate if it’s gutters only… if you’re already at the house coming down in the price makes sense to get the job.
Just be sure to pre soak everything around and post soak… I tipped my 5 gallon bucket of F-13 over 3 times and had to soak each affected area with like 10 gallons of water. Hope that did the trick. So be very careful as to where you place the bucket.
I’d say a gallon of mix is more than enough for most applications, and you can re-use the stuff even after it’s dirty as hell so don’t throw it away.
