Engine Issues

Hey all,

I’m having a little issue with an older machine I have. I tried uploading a video but it wouldn’t let me. The machine surges and the bypass line and pressure line do as well; is that air getting in there or the unloader not set right?

Also you can hear “pops” like the machine is backfiring. Not sure what that is about. All fuel lines under the hood are secure and the filter stays full of fuel. One thing I did notice was that there were a lot of bubbles coming into the fuel filter from the line to the tank. Could it be the belts slipping? Or dirty carb? Or air leaking in the fuel line?

No issues when the trigger is pulled. Good flow and pressure; only happens when it is idling and bypassing.

I would check unloader operation first, sounds like the culprit

How long has it been since you last used the machine?

If it’s the first time using it this year, and you haven’t changed anything else with your set up, I would guess it’s a dirty carb.

If you have been using it for the last couple weeks with no issue until now, then I agree with @CHogue and your unloader may be going bad/clogged or need adjustment.

Ill be checking both things this week. I appreciate you both responding. The machine sat for a while and has been actin this way every time we’ve tried to run it recently. Ill pull the carbs first and see if that’s the issue.

Thanks!

what engine?

Honda Gx690

Replaced the carb with a new one, fires up and runs. Once I pulled the trigger, even with soap nozzles, it dies out. Thinking an unloader issue?

Did you check the spark plugs? If the carb was blocked up initially and was run it could cause them to fail with it. Definitely sounds like a response to spark plug blockage and they most likely only need to be wiped off.

Update:

I missed the part about the bubbles, it’s far more likely you have a leak somewhere in the line before the fuel filter and that would definitely be the likely problem.

If the engine is still dying under load after you verify air isn’t getting in your fuel lines, pull off the fan shroud and see how the coils look, if they are delaminating and splitting at the edges that could be why it’s shutting off.

There goes the neighborhood :face_with_tongue:

Hey guys. Trying to upload a video. I appreciate everyone’s input. Got it running, but still dies with trigger pull. Tried adjusting the unloader but it dies before I can.
New carb. New spark plugs: gapped to .030. Not sure what else. No bubbles in fuel filter now.

had the same issue and it was a coil. The engine was running off one cylinder which was enough without a load but then when you put a load on it the engine would die.

Copy that! I’ll get the coils ordered. Thank you gentlemen for all the input and direction. I appreciate it!
