Efflorescence

Is F-9 Efflo strong enough to remove this? I will be doing a test spot tomorrow but just wondering if anyone has had anything like this. It is pretty thick in some spots.

I’ve only done a few restorations similar to that, but I think it looks like more than just efflorescence.

Calcium?

Have you talked to Craig Harrison at F9 or the guys at Eaco Chem?

Both companies are great to deal with, have awesome products and will make recommendations based on your pics and input. We’ve only done it on a few jobs but they paid very well. Each one took testing with multiple products to figure out what we were dealing with. And sometimes different areas of a wall would look the same, but take a different product or method to get the results we wanted.

Im going to try f9 tomorrow since i have it on hand.

I would use F9 Efflo, straight on a dry surface and 2-3 light coats. Brush with stiff bristled broom, neutralize and pressure wash. If you make a good dent in it with minimal etching, repeat the process until it’s gone.

It may take several attempts to get it off. If it doesn’t budge then you are into the calcite stage and only remedy is to sandblast. In this case I’d use kieserite and Maxxstrip.

Thanks Craig. Will do.

Nice! Do you need to seal it so the efflorescence won’t come back?

I have warned property manager and he agrees but it is up to owners to decide if they want it sealed. I don’t guarantee that it want come back. I’m still deciding if I want to bid on it. This was just one spot of 100’s.

That looks great! Was that done per Craig Harrison’s recommendations in this thread?

Hey guys - I did a job two weeks ago on a home with what appears to be really bad efflorescence. It all appeared to be completely gone (I had to do a lot of scrubbing and used KrudKutter straight) and after letting it dry it all appeared to be ok.

Well, I got a text from the customer today saying it is starting to come back (he said it isn’t as bad or nearly as bad but that it is noticeable)

What in the world do I do? I don’t want to upset this customer and I don’t think it’s going to completely come off ever.

This was about two hours after.
