I know. I couldn’t believe because the box is in such great shape. There are a couple small one inch holes in the side but nothing at all that would make you think it was damaged that bad. The box wasn’t even dented or bashed in. The tape seemed to be original too so doesn’t look like anybody got into it. I’m use to crap like that happening to me though. Story of my life…lol.
I guess the box kind of has a crease on the left there so maybe it just took a big tumble out of the back of a truck or airplane. You still wouldn’t think it would’ve sustained the damage it did.
Hey marine…leatherneck
Me too.
Sent email today as im screwing around in garage with this gx 390
See what they have to say…
Oh geez…I guess it happens though. I’m sure they end up pinning it on Fedex anyways. What in the world could that little tab have hit on that would caused it to snap off? Makes you wonder if the damage happened before packaging. I could see some young punk kids in the warehouse laughing as they dropped my engine from the second story balcony onto the concrete floor, packaging it up in the box, and then sending it off for shipment. With yours there’s really no way it could bounce around inside the box and hit anything that would break that off like that. Looks like someone took a hammer to it.
I have two sets of gas tanks, air filter housings, and mufflers from my other two engines that were used in my golf cart. I didn’t use any of those on the golf cart build. I doubt it will happen but am kind of hoping they don’t want the old bashed up engine back. They’re cheap enough they might not even worry about it. Shipping probably costs as much as what they pay for the engine. I thought about just swapping my other parts over and not even saying anything but I was afraid something else might be damaged that I couldn’t see. Maybe some hairline cracks or something. That piece that broke off on yours is high enough up that you could braze it back on and put it to use.
Looks like they snapped it off by over tightening the bolt on an already cheap casting to me.
Look at the metal on the shroud right next to the broken piece. It’s bashed in pretty good. Something hit it hard.
Who knows!
Im sure ill know what they want to do monday
Hey guys…i may have figured another problem on my 390. The coil may have been installed backwards by previous owner.
This the right way? Im thinking this affected timing…andexplains no rpm.
I cant find anything else…been through it all… 20200216_155229|281x500
You could absolutely be right. To me it looked like that was probably cause by the wrench/ratchet/socket slipping when the casting snapped and crunched into it. The world may never know.
Best unboxing video ever, had it made YouTube lol.
Well…i took the engine pretty much apart, except for crank and rod and piston.
Cam looked ok.lifters worn…but not enough to cause the issue.
Went over the coil again, and reinstalled it the proper way. Slapped it all together…runs and rpms.
Most likely it was the coil. Funny thing, the previous owner TOLD ME its probably the coil. Lol. It did have a blown head gasket.
Got another decent motor now.
Ok so this is a long shot but look at the sceen on the exhaust It may be clogged up take the muffler off and run it its building back pressure and that usually the problem take the mesh screen off and toss it
I got it fixed.
Most likely coil was installed backwards by previous owner, then i just followed his error.
Had plenty wrong, including blown head gasket, which could have been caused by coil
All done.!
Rpms good now, without a load. Even fixed the pull cord.lol…was loose.
I like the Hondas
