Driveway sealing

Are you using penetrating or surface sealers?

I’d be lying if I said I knew. Aggreseal. 30% solid. Low VOC solvent for exposed aggregate. I can’t remember the waterborne waterproofer for regular concrete

That’s a surface sealer. That’s good stuff for a surface sealer.
I’m more a fan of the penetrating sealers except for maybe exposed aggregate.

I sealed my first driveway 2 weeks ago. It was a new construction home that they wanted about 2000 sqft of concrete cleaned and sealed. I DS degreaser, used F9 Groundskeeper to remove tire marks from the landscapers, and applied the sealer with a pump up sprayer as a helper used an 18 inch roller to even it out. Turned out excellent! I got $0.50 sqft for cleaning and $0.70 sqft for sealing. Took about 7 hours total between the 2 days. I used TK-290 with a natural look.

Does the $.70 / sq ft include the cost of the sealant?

Yup, the sealer was about $260 per 5gal. I wouldn’t charge that much next time though. They really needed it done asap because they were moving in and the temps here in Wisconsin are starting to drop.

And here I thought I was fighting the weather. Yikes.

If I may revive the subject…

Friend of mine wants the driveway done and she said I could ‘practice’ sealing her driveway if she pays for the sealant. So far I gather a water base is more my ‘speed’ as I’ll need to seal it right after washing. It rains way too much here for me to attempt an acrylic. Knowing her she’ll be fine with Thompsons or whatever I can get locally.

As for sprayers, is there a general consensus on backpack versions? Reviews are mixed on the Chapin, I’m not afraid to spend a bit more for some quality.

I’ve used a Husqvarna backpack sprayer and really liked it.

But putting Thompson’s on a driveway?
Next you’ll switch to Dawn as your surfactant.

Mr. Schertz seemed to have luck with it.:man_shrugging:t3:

People aren’t using Dawn anymore?

Anything from local hardware/paint stores you recommend?

is it aggregate or regular concrete? How many sq ft roughly?

As a window cleaner first, I have a strong belief that Dawn works for everything. Especially if you put some GG4 in with it.:rofl::rofl:

Here’s a link for a search for “dawn problem” on this site. Start reading.

Oh I know not to use dawn. I use Elemonator and have from the start. I was just messing around. I thought the sarcasm was evident, but sometimes text doesn’t work how I want. I do appreciate you being willing to put the information at there for me!

It crossed my mind and I thought, “boy, with that much reading time certainly he knows better” but it wasn’t clear to me.

And I don’t even know what GG4 is. Lol

We have aggregate and brushed here in Louisville. Not sure what she has specifically, I’ve yet to see it.

I was playing, I use elemonator.
