Downstream injector maintenance

Well, on mine it has either been the spring that gets weak or the o-rings flatten out. I’ve never had a stainless ball break or anything.

You can test them by blowing into the barb. If it has a bit of resistance then kinda flutters, it’s good. Blow in and little or gradual resistance then time to replace. That spring wears out eventually.

The ball when it is metal, that is why the ceramic one is better, but you must rinse it.

i have never had issues with the springs, though, it would seem that to be the first one to go.

I guess my argument for it getting expensive not to maintain things is not just about the injector, I maintain all my equipment, change the oil in the engine, pump, clean screens / filters, wipe hoses as I wind them in, rinse the roof pump every time, wipe and clean stuff, if I see a leak I fix it as soon as possible, etc. I guess that might be old school thinking but it works for me. What gets really expensive is breaking down on a job, or down time because something broke and you don’t have a spare.

Agreed

I have had great luck with the stainless ones.

they say 2 is none and 3 is one.

carry 5 of everything.

when i carried just the necessary i was always in need of something, when you carry in excess nothing brakes down… dont make sense but happens

So… if 2=0, and 3=1, and 2+3 = 5… then 5=1?

I think everyone here is pretty good on maintaining their equipment for the most part. With employees it can be tough to make sure they are on board and do it 100% of the time, but we train on it, have checklists and occasioanlly check behind (was the pump/proportioner cleared & rinsed?, etc.).

With the injectors, guys will be messaging from the job that they can’t work because the SH isn’t working…
me: did you change the injector?
them: don’t have another one
me: where’s your spare?
them: used it a few weeks ago
me: did you put the old one on the parts bench and put it on the jotform, or tell someone so they could swap the QCs onto a new one for you?
them: no
me: :man_shrugging: looks like you’re 2-hosing it then

Maybe there is something to @Ikii’s math system, lol
