Does anyone know what this is?

These things do not come off with my house wash mix. I can scrape them off with my fingernail but sometimes they do not come off completely. There were plenty of plants/trees/shrubs around the house and this stuff was everywhere. I walked the property with the owner and pointed this out to him and letting him know this will not come off with our service. Scrubbing was out of the question because this house was so heavily oxidized. Does anyone know what this is and if there is a secret to removal? Thank you!

It is artillery fungus and won’t be included in a regular house wash. Comes from the mulch beds.

I just looked it up and that is definitely it. Thank you very much for the quick response.

I have seen the results of people try to blast it off with high pressure , which by the way does not work. I now always check for it if there is mulch beds around the home and advise accordingly.

Yep. I’ve tried applying some pressure on this stuff before and it didn’t budge much so I stopped right away. I assume if they ever wanted it removed, it would come along with oxidation removal and a very high price tag.

They won’t come off, period. You can scrape them off one at a time, but there will still be a stain. They are permanent

As a window cleaner I’ve seen these reach over two stories, crazy. We can scrape them off glass but nothing takes the spores off vinyl that I know of.

Tell customer that it is likely coming from their mulch beds. Lots of bagged mulches from box stores are made up of recycled pallet wood and this stuff thrives off it. Encourage client to use real hardwood mulch or another form of ground cover to help prevent it. When possible, point these out BEFORE starting your wash, but they can blend in well on a really dirty house. I mention in my disclaimer/quote process that I do not remove artillery fungus.
