Has anyone ever used and had decent-lasting results with the DIY garage floor kits? Any product recommendations?
I used products from Benjamin moore store. Between 6 to 10 a year we are doing. Customers are happy. We don’t use machines to grind the floor so we are doing only unstained/ not painted concrete.
What about when the garage floor is real smooth, does it adhere well?
I used muriatic acid on all the floors to make sure the surface is ready for the epoxy.
I recommend using Serwin Willims products with a polyaspartic coating. You can use regular epoxy for your base, but polyaspartic coating (more expensive) but it has uv properties.
I also recommend water base, if not you will need to add a moisture mitigation system if you leave where there is lots of moisture.
Lastly, I found that grinding the floor for preparation of surface is best vs using acids.
Hopes this helps.
AHHHH, the dreaded “SW” word…
jaja! SW has worked great for me, I tried other brands, but drying time and duarbility has not been the same.
Interesting…respirator as well? I know that stuff can be rough.
I’ve thought about adding floor coating, but I want nothing to do with grinding prep work.
Obviously not a softwash guy…I would prefer SW go out of business than support their products at this point
Find a local concrete store that sells sealer, concrete stains, rents floor grinders, stamps, etc. They should have high quality epoxy floor coating and have a wealth of knowledge to go with it. I recently found a guy who owns his own store. Finished concrete for 30 years and then purchased the store. Every time I go in there I learn atleast 5 new things about concrete.
Always respirator when using acid.
Grinding the concrete is way faster.
To me Benjamin is more convenient and our local stores carry 99% US manufatured products.
The grinders work but you still need the acid cleaning stage. ArmourGarage makes a really great 2-part product, used it many times
Thanks for the input guys!
