Did a house wash last night. Customer sends texts this morning saying everything looks good except this one small area looks blotchy. It looks to me like I somehow disturbed the oxidation by letting the SH sit too long, and it created this blotchy appearance. However I want some other opinions as I’ve never ran into something like this before. Does it just need to be re-washed, or will it need an oxidation treatment with brushing?
Just looks dirty to me. Looks like you didn’t rinse nearly enough. Re-wash
I’ve had similar issues when you have oxidation and the sun is on that side when you wash it. It dries quickly and looks blotchy. I suggest rewashing it when it’s cool and no sun beating on it, then rinse it really well. Now that I know, if I notice oxidation, I let them know ahead of time there is a chance of it looking blotchy when it dries. I tell them if you do notice it, give it until after a good rain and if it’s still there, I’ll come wash it again. A good rainy day seems to always fix it for me.
Okay that’s good news. A re wash is a lot better than a oxidation removal
Okay gotcha. So should I tell the customer to wait until the next rainfall, and if it doesn’t go away then I’ll come back out and make sure it’s taken care of? Or should I just go re wash it since I didn’t preface the possibility of this happening
Go rewash, get it over with. Might as well brush it for good measure.
Just rewash it….light mist pressure when final rinsing. I see it all the time around here….oxidation side is like this, good rain and it disappears……at least in my experience. You’ll be fine though.
Definitely get it over with. If you’re not pre-wetting surfaces before hitting them with SH I recommend starting now. I know guys that don’t, I always do now though
If you tell them upfront it could happen, then waiting for rain is fine. Since you didn’t and they brought it up, you need to go back right away and fix it
Depending on how bad the oxidation is. If its bad a brush will make it much worse and you’ll be in for a full oxidation removal. Gutter butter works good if you want to brush everything. Cleansol bc works without brushing but may take a few applications
Adding to this thread, I just got a call today asking if I can come back to redo the side of a house that had drip marks from the wash a couple weeks ago.
I went back out there and scrubbed with my waterfed pole, seems to have worked.
@dcbrock - Chris just curious is this the side of the home that gets all the sun? Thanks.
You don’t have a siding brush? I wouldn’t ruin my $150 tucker alpha brush on siding
I didn’t have my trailer with me. It’s fine, didn’t ruin it.
To me, that looks like white residue left from algae, not just drips. I’ve had that left on certain color and textures of siding. Just rinsing seems like it doesn’t get it off very well and I usually brush it. For me, I see it on about 1 in every 15 houses.
