Did something happen to Elemonator?

I just got a new gallon from Pressure Tek and it doesn’t seem to mask the bleach smell or rinse as effectively as it used to. I’ve had a handful of customers and passersby’s mention the chlorine or pool smell… which I have never experienced in the past. I typically mix 1oz per gallon, but with this new batch, I’ve been upping it to 2oz per gallon (probably whats contributing to the rinse issue, now that I think about it), and I’m still getting remarks about the smell being noticeable. Just wondering if it’s just me or if others are noticing the same?

I might have to look into alternatives, any recommendations?

Yeah man this has been an ongoing issue for like 2-3 years now if I recall. I just switched to buying surfactant locally from our vendors here in Dallas.

Interesting… I’ve been using it for about 3 years now (so I have no basis for what it was prior to then) maybe I was still getting some of the old stock… but this new batch seems totally different.

Yeah I believe it might have changed formula? I only use 1/2 ounce or less per gallon of mix. It goes a long way but if you’re wanting masking more is the only way to get that….I wouldn’t recommend though, spend more time rinsing. Just my opinion.

Yea I found 1oz per gallon was just about perfect for masking and not spending all day rinsing… this new gallon though is something else.

I noticed it’s lighter looking then from years ago?

This is unfortunate to hear since I was going to be placing an order soon.
Might just have to look into something else.

Maybe I shouldnt have said “ongoing issue”. I just remember this forum praised elemonator very highly and I used to love it too but they definitely changed their formula and then I started noticing some people started having rare isolated issues, probably just temporary manufacture/storage issues.

Overall it’s still going to be a good surfactant at 1-2oz per gallon. I just buy locally cause it’s convenient for me and I finally have a couple good suppliers near me

This happened before, about 2 years ago or so, everyone complained the scent went away (no one complained about the soap itself). I did my own research and I think I will continue to buy it, just add a couple drops of lemon oil to the mix for scent. It is about $9 a jar. I think this stuff might just be SLES Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulfate, water, and fragrance, but I don’t know. Watched a guy making a thick bleach today using SLES.

Kinda neat, and also a train wreck, this is what happens when I get stuck inside.

You go with some regular lemon oil or using like Horizon Aromatics?

I use about 12 ounces per 100 gallons

I’ll look into lemon drops… any specific one you use or just pick up cheapest from amazon/etc?

I won’t go to the site, my antivirus keeps blocking me from going there (probably just didn’t update their security certificates). When they came on this site awhile back I tried it out, it was decent but pricey. I liked the choices, but I’ll stick with lemon. I tried out another surfactant that was supposed to smell like apples, I never got that smell and if I added more I was rinsing forever. Plus it was dark in my tank. My favorite scent was that arm and hammer, smelled great but I wasn’t buying jugs of it just for scent.

Hehe, got me, cheap bastadge that I am I found a 4 or 8 ounce bottle for 9 bucks on amazon. Who knows what you are getting, they could say is was lemon angel tears and I would have no way of confirming it until I smelled it.

I have noticed the consistency seems thinner the past few batches I have purchased.

Slo mo is my go to surfactant… it’s probably 4x as this as elemonator so just dilute and add your own scent I’ve used horizon aromatics and other scents and oils but I cant say I have a favorite yet. Also I don’t add it to my bleach tank. I use a 3 way to pull surfactant separately because the bleach will degrade most scents and I can shut off the surfactant completely when I don’t need to use it
