Deleting posts

Guys. Please quit deleting posts. When people search or read in the future and your posts have been deleted, it totally screws up the context of the thread. If you’re not sure if you should post something, you probably shouldn’t. Forum guidelines don’t say not to delete, but it’s pretty much implied and deleting doesn’t contribute to the flow of reading

One of the features of this forum is the ability to self-moderate. That means if you look back on something you wrote, and decide that it doesn’t contribute to the discussion in a meaningful way, you have the ability to delete it.

Those who are truly curious, or feel they need that context to understand the discussion in its entirety, have the ability to view the edit history and see what was deleted.

Please explain how to do that.

The forum has a feature that is available to all users which allows them to delete a comment they no longer want posted. That feature is there for a reason, and it is every individual user’s prerogative to decide to delete a post or not. There are no rules against deleting posts, regardless of whether or not it makes a thread hard to understand in the future.

But Steve, what if someone hurts my feelings and deletes their comment I’ll still have to go through the pain of being hurt

Alright. I guess the mods have proven their point. They have deleted the last 8 of my posts so maybe commercialism over content has won over. I’ll ease off for awhile until we see which way the wind blows.

Oh, for crying out loud Will. It was 3 posts I deleted, and they we all the same post that you kept re-posting every time it got deleted. So essentially 1 post, 3 times. You of all people know that circumventing moderation action on the forum is wrong. So, if you are going to complain publicly, at least tell the truth.

Ok, to tell the truth it was 6 times, not 3 or 8. I had to go back and count. My bad. Point is, y’all won, I’ll stop

Nobody “won.” It wasn’t a contest between you and the moderators.
As to the post count, you have had 16 total posts deleted since you joined. 3 in the last 24 hours, and prior to that a post was deleted (because it was flagged) on March 11th, 2021.
The forum software logs every activity and keeps records of every post, which are never actually deleted. Even the “deleted” posts and topics are stored in a digital closet that only mods and admins can access, but are hidden from public view.
