Deck Wash question

So I am cleaning my first deck tomorrow and it has stain on it but it is coming off in some spots. The customer wants the stain stripped off so they can restain. I have been searching through here for the best procedure for this and can’t really find what I am looking for. Is there something I need to put on the deck first and let dwell (housewash/Sh mix, stripper??). I know I have to use low pressure so I don’t damage the wood but just looking for the best way to remove the stain. Thanks in advance. Please don’t blast me if this is in another post because I haven’t been able to find it. Thanks

I got 99 problems but stripping a deck ain’t one

Make sure you tell them your not cleaning up the chips

You can give it a shot with a deck stripper first. But they don’t usually work. Home Depot’s stripper won’t even take off their own stain.

This is what we use to strip. Works great!

Here’s what you do… you get your SO to run over your dominant hand with the biggest vehicle you have. While you’re healing be grateful that you’ll never know the pain and suffering that is stripping decks.

Damn, is it that bad?

It really sucks. Most of the chemicals that can really strip it need a lot of prep so you don’t strip paint on house trim or the house itself or don’t burn the landscaping to ashes. And to really strip EVERY thing in prep for something else (minus solid color stains) you need chems, pressure too low to pull off the really stubborn stuff but not high enough to damage it, scrapers, sand paper, and other stripping tools.

Stripping a deck from top to bottom with chemical alone is likely to leave you with a finished product no one is really happy with or multiple applications that require you to take time you could otherwise be using to actually make money.

In summary, just say no to decks that aren’t composite.

You got pics? Is it water based or oil based stain that’s on it? What color are they going back on with. Lighter or darker? What kind of shape is the deck in? Need to know all this before you can even give them a price. Lot of money in decks BUT you have to find the right customer who willing to pay to have it done right. They are about 1 out of 10.

Would you rather… spend a week in jail OR completely strip a deck?

I pick jail. That’s an easy week.

That seems generous. Lol

You just have to put that Squid charm on them

Just decks or do you avoid all wood work?

All wood.
