Commercial roof

The reel cost $79. I haven’t setup my trailer yet. Everything is just kinda in there. When thing slow down I’ll rig up the equipment permanently. I know it’s not a popular option around here but it’s getting the job done for now.

Chem tank is a 15 gal drum on the trailer

That’s a pretty good idea with the cart. However, 15 gallons will get you about 3 minutes of spray time at best

In that case, I will be purchasing a 55 for the next one. Today I’ll have to refill. I’m going to start with 60% bleach, 40% water, and cling on. Do you think this is a good ratio to start at. Maybe 20 min dwell time?

NO - you want about a 3.5%-4% net mix unless you’re doing tiles. If it’s 12.5SH put about 30-35 gal in a 100 gal mix tank. Add you surfactant, most good ones, about an ounce per gal of finished product and fill rest with water. You should see results in less than 10min. If a really bad area may have to hit it again. If a really steep pitch, say over 10/12 may want to bump you’re surfactant up an extra 1/2 oz per gal.

There’s no need spraying a whole house with a really strong mix, you’re wasting chemical and taking much more plant risk.

On average with decent pitched roof going to use about 1.5-2 gal of mix per 100 sq ft. of roof.

Just be careful when spraying, try not to get more than necessary on siding. Vinyl usually no big problem, siding whole different animal.

Thanks a lot for that info! I can’t understand why the x jet didn’t do the job if roof only requires 3-4%. I read on here that x jet without proportioner will be 50/50. Maybe it wasn’t working correctly. Either way I now have the roof pump. Im about to use a pump sprayer to text the %

The 4% is working very good. Thanks for the advice.

Is it necessary to rinse thoroughly on shingle? The suds seem to never stop. I e read that some people let Mother Nature do part of the work. Is it acceptable to leave a bit of roof mix to wash off when it rains, and just get the bulk of it yourself?

I’m only about 2 1/2 hours from you. The thing that always worried me about leaving it was that we get a lot of small showers and if it doesn’t rain enough to dilute it then it might pose a risk to the landscaping plus if it starts sudsing (I really don’t think that is a word) the customer might freak out. I didn’t do a lot of roofs but I always felt better about rinsing. Then flooding the landscape. I hope you have a helper that way someone can keep everything wet on the ground while you’re rinsing the roof. Just my 2 cents

I never rinse unless there are no gutters and even then just lower part. When it’s hot the sh going to evaporate quick so in less than a few hours all that’s pretty much left is the salt. Throw out a cup full of gypsum pellets near bottom of downspout if any plants nearby. Can buy at HD or any garden place. Cheap

The only other time I rinse is if it’s for a realtor and they’re going to be taking pics or showing soon, then I’ll hit the former really stained places which are brown after you treat, with my long range shooter tip just to rinse those off. Other wise let a couple of good rains do the work for you.

But you have to explain the process to customer in advance so they know what to expect. 1/2 the time they can’t even see the brown shading unless I point out to them.

Suds don’t bother my clients. I explain I use good quality soap and that when it rains they may get the suds out their gutters. Not going to hurt anything. My customers like seeing the soap. They’re paying you to wash their roof, got to have some suds, lol.

learn to shoot so there’s not much runoff. That comes with practice.

The roof came out great. I’m finished with it now but it’s raining so I’ll take some pictures another day when it gets up. As I’m rinsing the roof I’m wondering how can this be profitable. Spraying the chemical was easy. It took me forever to rinse. Now I read your comment and it makes a ton of sense. Thanks again. Couldn’t do any of this stuff without this forum. It would take me years to learn this stuff and plenty of trail and error.

I do have a guy with me. Came in handy too. I was able to direct 90% of the run off to the appropriate area. It was a great beginner roof.

Or two direct drive machines off the same tank that supposedly can’t be done… :stuck_out_tongue:

Only when you first start. As soon as all your equipment starts needing maintenance, and you hire someone, then bye bye margin :money_with_wings::money_with_wings::money_with_wings::money_with_wings::money_with_wings::money_with_wings::money_with_wings::money_with_wings::money_with_wings::money_with_wings:

Did this roof today. Not sure why I’m posting it, but what the heck…

And yes that’s a fish pond by the front door… :persevere:
