Cleaning Slate tiles

G’day from down under Australia lads…

I have a job I’m presenting a quote on Monday but just have a quick question and I out on how I’m about to tackle these slate tiles…

I read a thread here called “Using SH on natural slate tiles?” which is dated 2015 and was wondering if anything has changed in terms of cleaning them…

I’ve attached pics of the job below…

From that post Racer and @Seandz suggested a 3% pre and then a 3%post should do the job. And to make sure a SC is used…

Is 1800 psi on the SC ok to use on these or should I go lower?

Also I read somewhere that you shouldn’t use a surfactant? Or can I?

Any other input will help… Or if anyone has any other suggestions on tackling it would be appreciated…

Cheers
Jits…

You may need some degreaser where dirty from tire marks. Doesn’t look that bad overall. 2-3% either pre or post should be plenty. SC fine up to 2000 psi.

Easy mate… Thanks for that…

Quote sent today… Hopefully he accepts tomorrow… Will post after photos if we get the Job…

So I got the gig… And thanks to @racer for some help mate…

I didn’t end up using any SH due to the fact that the customer didn’t want any used to to cost difference, so I ended up using just surfactant let it dwell for about 10 Min at a time then surfaced cleaned using 1800 psi… Rinsed…

I did however have a few line show up… Could you explain to my why I get the in certain sections and not in others? See pic below

So I applied a bit of 3% sh to the areas that had lines as a post treat left it on but then came back this morning to see that it’s left more of a stain look rather than clearing the lines…

Would going over it again with my surface cleaner get rid of this stain look from the sh or would a rinse down do? See pic below from this morning:

I think the rest of the job came out pretty good considering… Any feedback is really helpful… Thanks again to all the info on this forum…

Jits,
It looks like where you have lines you let dirty water sit too long and just like with a drive, go perpendicular to main line of sight. Looks like you were making some long runs in front of main entrance. Also, you should have at least down streamed some SH as a final rinse. Wouldn’t have taken 2-3 gals of SH for that size, so shouldn’t have effected cost at all. Don’t let customer dictate how you clean something. They’re always going to cheap out.

Thanks mate…
I always do perpendicular to line of sight… On all the other areas where it was more rectangular I went perpendicular…

But for this area It was kinda hard to say which was the actual line of sight because it was more of a square area rather than rectangular… So either way I went it would have been long lines… I actually took that in mind before doing that area but from all 4 sides it was the same… There were 2 entrances to that area so kinda hard to know which one was actual line of sight haha…

So if it’s just dirt that’s settled down, it’s pissed down with rain now…
Do you rekon by tomorrow that SH that I left down will have disappeared or you rekon I should go back and surface clean it again… Or will surface cleaning the area make it worse?

I’d go back and just do that one area with your SC again going perpendicular to your last time and see if that helps. Most of it looks fine. Just that area you show in your first pic right above. Don’t let it sit more than 5-10min before you rinse. Because it’s pretty flat anyway, that dirt will settle back in there if it dries too much.
