Cleaning Green from Brick

Hello all,

We were hired to wash a brick house. Hit the back with a 10% HW mix, and it didn’t touch the green color like I hoped. Did a test spot with three passes of a 30% mix, and still nothing.

The customer was super cool and was happy with the differences he saw, but I was still disappointed. We will be back tomorrow to finish the front.

Any other ideas?

No, but I seeyou have no clue about mix ratios and percentages. What the heck is a 30% HW mix? You mean 30% SH to 70% water?

I didn’t say 30% HW mix. I said 30% mix. And yes, 30% SH, 70% water. Undiluted SH concentration of 12.5%. Diluted SH concentration of 3.75%.

HW mix, hit with pressure, if still dirty hit with pump up 50/50

Thanks for the advice. I hit with pressure today as well, and no action. I didn’t go all the way up to 50/50 though. The greenish bricks are all over the house, including second story. I could hit them all with 12v pump, but I don’t know that there will be enough improvement to warrant it.

Use surfactant? Dwel time? For me usually when things dry, they whiten.

HW mix, let dwell, white tip it - same one I use for my wood cleaning.

Man. Should’ve left that. I like that shade of green. Would be cool around Halloween

I think you’re color blind. Where are there any green bricks in those photos?

I’m struggling to see the green as well.

I understand it doesn’t looks like much, especially not in the pictures. They have a green/ yellow hue. While it could be the original color, I don’t really feel like it is.

That’s the surface color of the brick, looks like. Probably not a good idea to strip that off.

If you hit with 30% it’s dead and will go away if that’s what it is. See the photos from Thomas, not the pure green but the greenish tint on the foundation. That’s green, not what you have. We see a lot of green here. what you have is fine. Leave it and forget it.

Looks green to me, def hit with stronger mix, use pump up if they’re easily accessed.

Looks like the natural color to me, especially due to the randomness. Also, no matter what percentage you tried on it, if it didn’t change color at all it’s not organic.

We used elemenator. Total dwell time for three passes of 30% without rinsing was about 15 minutes.

Thank you all for your help! Much appreciated.

Suggest you go visit a brickyard and take Jesse with you, lol It will be an enlightening experience.
