Cleaning and sealing sandblasted driveway

Long story short, previous contractor botched the sealing job and the whole driveway needed to be fixed. GC decided it would be more cost-effective/less labor intensive to have the whole drive sandblasted to remove the sealer.

So any issues, precautions, or tips for cleaning and sealing a driveway after sandblasting? Just treat it like normal? It was poured over two years ago.

Man, just read your post to yourself from the third person and imagine giving advice to a guy in your situation? You would 100% absolutely tell him to decline the job and walk. There’s no way this headache is worth it. You don’t want to tag your name onto a piece of crap and you know its going to come out looking like a piece of crap no matter how good a job you do cleaning/sealing. You’ve seen enough sandblasted stuff to know its never going to look “good” after they sandblast it. No matter how hard they try to be uniform its not going to come out uniform and its going to set you up impossible to do a professional sealing job. The GC made a bad call with who they hired sealing it, the GC made a bad call trying to fix it cheap, and you don’t want to be associated with any of it. You take the job, then you inherit all of their bad mistakes and its on YOU in the end when it comes out looking like… :poop:

Just my opinion :innocent: the very best and good vibes to you if you end up doing it :100:

The headache part of the situation is already taken care of… they sandblasted all the old sealer off. Both the GC and homeowner understand and agree that the driveway’s current appearance, and how it will look after sealing, is what it is, it won’t be uniform and may have striations… it will not resemble a new pour. I’ve only seen photos since it was sandblasted, but it already looks much better than when I was there in person addressing the original seal job.

My main question is whether there are any special or necessary steps after a sandblast beyond the standard clean and seal process. I haven’t run into a situation like this before, and while I assume it’s basically the same, I wanted to hear from anyone who’s dealt with it firsthand. I’m planning to treat it similar to a new pour, minus any concern about pressure at this point. GC will be around so if things aren’t going as planned we can always assess from there.

do you know if the botched sealer was water based or solvent based?

I believe solvent based

Can you show a pic? Just curious what it looks like after sandblasting.

Doesn’t look half bad. I’ve seen worse new driveways.

I would do a couple water tests on different parts of the driveway and make sure the water is truly absorbing into the concrete and not sitting on the surface.

I planned on going by on Tuesday to mist it and view it in person
