I run into a lot of real wood dark stained entry doors (and the same for some porch ceilings) and always tape them off and don’t touch them.
But is there safe way to clean these?

I did some searching here and it seems there is no easy fix and most avoid them with plastic.
Honestly I do my best to avoid them but if I can’t I’ll just hose it down really good first
I normally avoid them, and I also avoid the ones that are peeling and flaking. If you run into a ton of them, maybe use a hand masker to speed things up. Sherwin Williams sells the 3m one and you can buy a variety of plastic lengths.
I prewet the doors, the plants, anything wood & run a cooler mix in that area. Most of the time the water will bead up and run off the doors like glass as soon as it hits; that’s what you want to see. Soap away from the door first & soap the door last. Rinse the door first. Rinse with soap nozzles. I’d rather have a consistent result than a few clean spots from overspray. No complaints yet.
Really can’t since many of these have a worn finish and spot almost instantly.
Wish there is a cleaner made for these.
They make one, it is called a rag. ![]()
Seriously, a real wood stained door shouldn’t be hit with SH. Maybe it would be ok if it has a urethane or some other sealer on it, but who knows how long ago it was sealed. If you want it clean, soap/water and a rag, it would take a whole 3 minutes, then rinse it with water fan nozzle. Or…mask it.
Unless you are working on high end homes your probably dealing with some other finish. The doors I used to stain many moons ago were 10k and up, probably 20k or more in today’s dollars just for the door.
