So I got a call today from a gas station owner, this individual happens to own 40 gas stations in my area. He has a person he uses routinely to do his stations and said he will not be able to do them for a couple of months due to some type of surgery he is having. Anyway, he asks me to give him a price on one particular station he has. The owner mapped out the area and said the usual guy does this area, at night, on Saturdays, once per month…I look at the area, usual gas station situation (gum, dirt, grime, grease and oil stains). I measure it out and it comes up to 17,000 square feet. cool at my normal rate of .13 cents per square foot using hot water and B52 de-greaser that comes up the calculation of $2210. Since he has 40 stores and wants each of them done once per month, keeping in mind when we do a good job we may just get the opportunity to be the new permanent contractor for him and all 40 of his stores. So I come down on my rate some considering the volume, I reduce my normal rate down to 9 cents per square foot but was willing to go down to 8 cents if needed.
the owners response was im not sure if you know what you are doing. the guy I have now only charges me $325 per washing once per month. Now considering the situation, I understand 40 stores, x $325 per store = $13000/ month x 12= 156,000 per year.
Im just wondering who is out of their mind here him or me. yeah it would be awesome to have 156,000 more in revenue, but im not sure if this guy is actually low balling or if he is not actually doing the entire 17000 square feet that i was told he was doing.
also keep in mind his 40 different stores are stretched out in a 150 mile radius. Am I the crazy one here?
