Chalk

OK pros, I tagged along to a guy in kc as a training day and I have mixed feelings about the day. One instance he washed a house vinyl siding tan in color and it had what appeared to be chalky spots after drying. His mix was elimantor, 2gal sh, 3 gal h20. Down streamed 8 GPM machine. The house is about 5 years old any thoughts? I don’t want to get caught with my pants down when I encounter this myself. And is it removable?

Mix is fine.Any vinyl I wash, regardless of age I do a walk around and do a finger test on it, especially on siding that
gets a lot of sun. I show the customer chalk if it is there, tell them the uv rays of the sun are causing this, and after a
low pressure house wash ,it will still be there. The siding is oxidizing, but it is clean.Tan, light blue, vinyl can be some of
the worst colors for this issue to occur, even on 5 year old siding seeing a lot of sun. Removable? Yes, I have found as
long as I keep wash and rinse pressure under 100 psi ,even badly oxidized vinyl has turned out fine. Hope this helps:D

Grizzly, this so far is talking vinyl siding only. Aluminum siding opens up its own can of worms!

I usually try to find out what manufacturer made the siding. A few of cheaper laminated ones spec no power washing. In my experience, (which pales in comparison to many guys here), the ones that spec no power washing are the ones which chalk/oxidize the worst.

Maybe most here can tell from just looking at vinyl, but for me, I always do a test patch before giving a price, since my game plan is predicated on the results of that test patch.

I do all vinyl home estimates via my PC. If the customer books then they go into the scheduled daily work orders that my guys take and off they go. 99x out of a 100 I never see these houses before during or after.

How much different is metal siding?

By that if you mean Aluminum siding…we pretty much don’t do them because of the problems that come with cleaning them.

OK thanks for the heads up
