So I finally got this resolved…apparently it was <1 year old, and he had stained it. He swears we used a super-hot mix of bleach (we downstreamed it, 
). Long and short of it, he loved us and said he’ll have a roof over it before we come next time…I agreed to buy a can of stain, everyone goes away happy 
Gotta love that “6 months in the sun” stain. Looks really worn and gray. Stuff is expensive to find. lol.
