What is a timeframe where you say that’s not a call back?
I washed a house and a screened porch about 6 weeks ago ago owner says there is some spotting on the porch ceiling. Pic is below. Everything looked fine when I was done as I check it all before leaving.
Could be several things. Hard to say, so this is a guess. I don’t know where you live or where you wash.
It was a painted ceiling and the ceiling wasn’t’ washed thoroughly enough and the residual chems caused some minor paint damage.
It was washed and rinsed properly, but they are getting morning condensation now in the fall than they did in the summer which is causing water spots.
You didn’t clean the roof and just rinsed it being a cheap contractor and thought you could get one over, the dirt spotted on the ceiling and is easy to see.
the home owner thought you could have gotten it cleaner and hit it with wet and forget and didn’t rinse it, and it spotted the ceiling.
I don’t see them calling you after 6 weeks being the issue, I see a problem that needs corrected. Now whether or not it is your fault is another matter. If I take my truck to the dealer and they work on it and 6 weeks later there is a hard shimmy in it, yeah they are getting called back. If I hire a roofer and 6 weeks later the roof leaks he is getting called back. I think you are picking up what I am laying down.
Edit: I am just a part timer and most of my work comes word of mouth, so I make sure my customers are happy. The last thing I say to everyone I talk to (if they are home when I am done) is “if there are any problems at all, please don’t hesitate to call me”.
The ceiling was washed and I rinse very thoroughly, it has been damp and rainy here the last week. I’m wondering if it’s hard water drying, I never washed a house in this subdivision before.
I am going back soon to check it out.
I will try to wipe it just with water.
Then with sh and water.
Finally try to do the above and wipe it dry and take it from there.
Looks like hard water to me. A few years ago I did the same exact thing but accidentally let some housewash mix dry, it spotted the paint up pretty good. I came back and hand scrubbed it off, she was fine with it.
Its not “hard water” from being rainy. By definition condensation can’t be hard water because its distilled water.
It could be a number of things, my guess is you left a film of soap residue on it and with water condensating on it it is collecting the film and drying into more noticeable patches. Either way, I would just chalk it up to one of those things and go back and give it a wash. Won’t take more than a few minutes and is a chance to foster good will with your customer and potentially acquire new customers when they tell people how great you responded to the issue.
While it’s very light , it seems to be a pastel paint issue. The blue color paint is so light you can only see it when against the white trim.
water and scrub did nothing even when
He mix scrub and dry did nothing really. Again it’s light so it’s hard to tell.
Will be offering a refund, or paint allowance or I repaint it myself. It’s a completely flat porch ceiling with two ceiling fans so it won’t be that bad anyway.
That stinks, I was hoping it would come off with a wash but yeah just go over there on a some afternoon coming up and knock it out, I mean it sucks but in the grand scheme of things we still have one of the best jobs as far as earning and freedom and just general quality of life. Sometimes we have to eat the unpaid work for something like this to make it right even if its not fully our fault…
I had to repaint something recently too, it was kind of my bad for not noticing the paint on the house was flat and also oxidized/disintegrating. I soft washed part of it right off lol…lesson learned. Now when I show up to a painted house I’m careful to examine it and if there’s any sign of oxidation on especially flat paint which powders faster/easier then I have a talk with the customer to set their expectations that we might end up seeing siding substrate if the paint has really deteriorated away. I ended up re-painting the side of that house, took me an afternoon. Like you said if that’s my “big mistake” then so be it, I’m fine with that!
