@Seandz cat pumps are rubbish, I’ve never had a bad udor in over 15 years I replace them when they wear out not break, that my friend isn’t coincidence, that is quality. And yes I’ve had many cats in my earlier years.
Fair enough. I don’t know enough about them except for the PW mechanic says they are great pumps and my 2 years experience (which isn’t much especially not using it every day). If it was an udor or general would having that 12v pump still cause issues from not providing enough flow?
I have a Honda gx390 and my pump is good for now being that I purchased the machine last year. My question is would you recommend a belt driven udor or gear driven that is compatible with that motor. I’m just trying to plan ahead for the day when my pump does eat it. (It’s northern tool brand) after a little more research after the fact I wish I had put my money elsewhere. Live learn and move on.
@Seandz you’ve lost me. Start again
@PWP5gpm I personally prefer gear driven pumps, I don’t have time for slipping, snapping belts.
General, yes. Udor, possibly. Feeding a pressure washer with a 12v pump is about the most Mickey Mouse crap I’ve ever heard of on this forum. There are ways to do things correctly and that is not one of them.
So udor will pull better than a general?
I don’t know about that but from what I’ve heard of them they can dang near run dry for quite a while before they really have any problems. I wouldn’t go betting my equipment on testing that theory though. I have a GP now and it works great but when it goes–and it will–I’ll be buying an Udor.
Reread my first comment about it. It got extrapolated through the thread.
So that could be why his cat pumps keep failing then. Thanks for the insight!
@OC2X none of these pumps are intentionally designed to “pull” water. They inherently pull water because of there lower working rpm when configured for geardrive/belt drive for a more reliable working life (less revs-less wear), the water pulling part is just one of the perks of having a low rpm pump that we take advantage of when we build rigs. Comet, udor, gp, bertolini, cat, they have no interest in how we mount our tanks, why would they? Will it suck water? That’s up to the person that engineered the rig, not pump manufacturers.
