Box Truck Specifics

What’s up everyone. Hoping somebody can help put me out of my misery lol… I have been researching box trucks for the past two weeks non stop and my wife thinks I’m going crazy. And I feel like I am. My reason for adding a box truck to our fleet is because of storage and spacing reasons.

I have some very specific questions about some features on box trucks.
1 - Side Doors. Does anyone else have a box truck set up with a side door? I feel like it would be convenient but also think that the steps might take up space in the box itself.
2 - Cab to Box Door. Is there any reason why it would be convenient to go from the cab to the box itself? Anyone else have this or wish they did?
3 - Wheel well area. Some boxes sit lower and would probably be more convenient for accessing hose reels and machines through the side but how annoying would it be to have the wheel well sticking up in the floor of the box if that makes sense?
4 - Looking at f350, Chevy3500 , Isuzu

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I would not want a cab to box door. You will have chemicals back there you do not want to inhale all day. The side door would be great place to pull hoses through. It also gives access to the front of the box.

I am in the middle of a box truck build currently. Have not used it in real life yet, just putting it together so my opinion may change but the thought process for me was to not have aside door like that because it eats into available space.

The cab to box door I didn’t want because I didn’t want to have to smell fumes leaking into the main cab and I didn’t really see a reason.

Wheel well area was literally then and of my existence for a few days trying to figure out what to do while avoiding them. I got some encouragement on here and went with the simplest thing to do and hopefully it works out :joy:
I’d love to have no wheel well boxes that’s for sure!

I specifically avoided all the swing open rear doors because you lose space on both sides and I wanted to be able to put a pallet in there if I can fit it. I went with roll up door. This comes down to preference and how you were setting things up. I am setting up my boxtruck to work out of the rear.

I did put an access door in to be able to access pressurewasher from the outside so I’m not getting in and out of the truck all the time.

I bought a 2019 GMC Savana 3500 and it has a payload max of 3100 lbs so not super beefy but the box is 12ft and i can park the thing anywhere. Box is as wide as the cab.

I’m by no means an expert, this was my reasoning for doing what I did or planning on doing. Here’s some pics of the setup that’s in progress. Havent plumbed everything yet because I am still blocking stuff out and have to fly back down to AZ.

What you have going on there is very similar to what we are picturing. Did you install the small side door access to the machine yourself? If so did you just cut it out and then install that door if so where did you get the little door?

Cut out, installed, used butyl tape, stainless throughbolts and sealant.

I stole the idea from @Innocentbystander who has a few videos floating around of his previous box truck builds.

Door was from rec pro for like 170 bucks shipped. 24x36. Don’t use their weather stripping. Use butyl.
