Bleach tank valve fiasco

I think I mentioned how handy a chem tank valve was for filling pump sprayers. I think I also mentioned that it had a slight leak probably two months ago. Nothing more than salt build up on the valve. Thought it was no big deal.

Filled it to it’s 35 gallon capacity last night and today all 35 gallons + Elemonator was on the shop floor.

Sooo if I told you a valve on your bleach tank is awesome and that a slight leak is no big deal I can no longer be trusted.

Hate to hear that. But look on the bright side your shop floor is clean

You probably have the cleanest shop floor in your state!! You’ll probably smell SH in there for months…lol. I used to keep a 50 gallon tank on my trailer filled with straight SH with a bulkhead fitting and valve that I could fill up 5 gallon buckets. I was always worried I’d come out to my trailer and find gallons of SH all over the ground…Finally did away with it

Sorry bro. I am guilty as well. I used to have a valve on my chemical tank. Never again. Same thing happened to me. Except it broke at a customers house. Only half full though, what a mad scramble that was. Learn my lesson though.

Thanks guys. It was definitely my own dumb fault. Had to fill up 3 carboys to get through tomorrow when a polypropylene cap and shaker siphon (lol) gets here.

The nylon failed.

Fans and rinse rinse rinse. Lot of rust in your future if not.

I rinsed it out with a full IBC tote worth and put up fans. The rust is what I was actually worried about.

Nylon sucks for SH it shrinks and gets brittle. Also that union fitting has a oring in it so it also sucks. There are several that last for years and years . I’ll get you a list.

Remember, if you keep bleach inside, you need placards. I keep mine outside for that reason and the rust factor.

I’m not much for rules.

Both valves with last many years . They are installed on 1800 and 4000 gallon SH tanks. By the manufacturers of the SH

The asahi valves are kinda pricey but well worth it
