I’m not sure if what I’m experiencing is something that happens with new belts or I’ve screwed up on tensioning, or some other thing is at work. I recently built a trailer with a skid rocking a 8gpm 3500 psi GP TSF2021 hooked up on a Predator 670cc. Machine has been running great and with the 300ft of hose I’m using, I get about 2700 PSI at my wand. I’ve noticed the belts I installed are constantly giving off a residue dust. Belts seem to be in great condition with no fraying on the edge but they do get hot. I’ve ran the machine for maybe an hour all together and have cleaned parts to see if the residue has subsided but always seems to be more. I’m not sure if this is a new belt thing or if I have the belts too tight or maybe some larger problem. This is my first time assembling all of these parts and I chose to do this because I’ve always felt it’s better to know a machine through and through instead of purchasing and not knowing and truly wanted to save money on the unit. It’s been a 3 month venture between parts and studying and now this is the only problem I’m left with that I’m unsure of. I’m sure many more will come down the road but for today I want to make sure I’m not causing any of my equipment harm. Originally I thought maybe the unloader was causing issues and still very well could be but after buying a pressure gauge I’ve been able to fine tune the machine with 3200 PSI and 3500 PSI spikes out the pump and 2700 PSI out the wand with 3000 PSI spikes. I have a 4 belt pulley system that uses V shaped belts. I spoke with a reputable man named Rex at Pressure Washing Products and he ordered the pulleys from Pressure Pro’s, which is where my skid is from as well. Any help is greatly appreciated.
how tight are your belts. If you press on then, how much play do you have?
When I press on all 4 at the same time, a little over 1/4” of play.
Tighten them up. You’re getting all the debris from the belts slipping
Should there be any play in the belts?
Barely
I tightened the belts until the tensioning bolt sheared itself, bought a new one (grade 8) and tightened it until the tensioning plate installed under the pump started to bend. still have belt dust thrown. Truly not sure what the issue is, is it supposed to have a bit of belt dust? Maybe because it is new? Like I said I’ve ran the machine an hour. At this point, if no one knows why it would be doing this, I think I’ll leave the issue alone as the machine is operating perfectly fine.
If it’s like mine, there’s two bolts you turn in to add tension. But the pump itself has 4 bolts that hold it in place. You need to loosen the pump mounting bolts, then tighten the adjustment screws. Is yours set up like that?
No, mine has a single tensioning bolt. Everything else is the same.
Might have missed it, but what belts did you get?
You need to loosen the bolts clamping everything down before adjusting the tension bolt. 1/4” deflection seems about right to me to be honest. Did you look at the belts and see if there is something shaving them?
maybe wrong belts
First, get rid of two off the belts. tightening the tensioner bolt pulls the pump at an angle. you have to loosen three of the pump bolts to get the pump to position itself straight.
