This is for @MrSparkleVA, but hopefully it’s helpful to multiple folks.
“Shop dog hasn’t helped a lick!”
What is that, a Brittany Spaniel?
DUDE, what a gift! Thanks a bunch for the video. I really like the second 2 way valve to hold solution in the hose. Since you cut a hole in the lid, how would you clip the feeder PVC into the bucket? I realize that I need to up my game more and more, and roofs will be big around here when I secure my apparatus. I already have 3 sold in the Spring when I expected to get set up. I wonder if I can use the same hose for my Water Fed Pole setup that I have decided to build for roof cleaning.
BTW, just finished my roof and not pleased with the limitations for rinsing with XJet from the ground. I fully expect for the rain to wash away all of the solution and remaining black and brown crap that I haven’t rinsed from the roof, but for now it looks like crap in some places. Also, difficult to get the solution in some places that my water fed pole could have reached easily. I just need the right 12v pump and nozzles to mount on this beauty
I think that WFP will give me a greater capacity for chem placement as well as rinsing. This is what I’m left with on my house:
I think what’s left will rinse off with the rain, but maybe you guys know better than me. I put a bunch of solution on that roof. Can’t imagine anything survived.
Thanks again, Rowdie. You’re the shiznit!
He’s a little old cocker. Got him in Maryland almost 11 years ago because he was abandoned by someone on St. Patrick’s day. His name is St. Pat. He answers to shop dog, Paddy, Pat, and little dog since he’s the only little dog I’ve ever had.
Another fun fact: I haven’t spent a day alive in 33 years without a dog and don’t tell the others, but little dog is my favorite.
As far as the WFP for roof washing, I don’t know how effective you can really be. Maybe you’re on to something. I don’t know.
I do know that whenever I try a shortcut it never works the same as when I pony up and buy the right tools. 12v, small engine chemical pump, and air pumps have all proven they can get the job done right.
Like they said in the Navy, There’s only two ways to do anything: Right and again.
Hopefully you can see what I was talking about with the bucket and the draw tube from the pic. If not, let me know.
Here is an attachment designed to fit on waterfed poles, along with a video of it in action. I’ve also seen homemade ones where they use regular extendable poles, with screw on paintbrush holders, and attach the nozzles that way.
There isn’t a ton of feedback out there on using poles to roof clean… i’ve seen some say it works great, and others that have tried them and say it is too much hassle compared to shooting from the gutter line with the proper equipment, and/or walking the roof with protective gear.
One of these days i plan on putting one together… like everything, i think it would be good to have in the arsenal, especially if there is a weird place on a roof, like above a dormer, that you cant hit or something… or even if you need a few more feet to hit the side of a big building.
I suppose it conserves chemical as well, if you can use a fan tip on a high section of a roof, instead of having to use a stream tip from the gutter line.
Oh, the shame. I just hope @Innocentbystander isn’t reading this. He just might pull your man card for good!
As for short-cutting the roof setup, I’ve about $700 in that pole, and I’d like to see it serve a multi-purpose. If I can get a 12v pump that will dump 5 to 8 gpm and run it through the hose and out the end of that pole, wind will no longer displace my solution and I can put it where I need it, instead of dealing with the limitations of being 30 ft away with my stream and the vagaries of the weather. I’ll definitely keep you guys posted, and thanks! I DO understand now how your doing the lid. NICELY DONE, MY FRIEND.
That gives me some ideas, number one to call those folks and find out if they’re still using WFP to wash roofs. OTOH, I certainly would have had no trouble finishing that chimney had I used my WFP to place the chems right where I wanted them. Racenstein’s price is a bit high for 50’ of 3/8" hose and a couple of fittings. Guess I’ll have to come up with something, say a 12v pump, couple hundred (maybe 300) ft of 3/8" hose (is that the right diameter to push 5 GPM?), a battery, and a tank (55 gal?) that is portable enough to put on and off my truck. Suppose I could use this setup to apply chems to housewash, and if both systems (PW and 12v) are pumping 5GPM, would it even matter which was used for rinsing? Will the pressure enhance the rinsing? And, without the pressure, will the 12v spray with the same fan and vigor?
What about this little beauty:Diaphram Pump 5.5 GPM
What about this little beauty
Pretty sure that seaflo has proprietary threads on the inlet and outlet, so you cant use hardware store fitttings if they break. I had one similar to it, and that was the case.
I would just buy the 5.5 delavan that Pressure Tek sells, for about $140. It’s one of the most popular choices for house/roof cleaning with a 12V.
Most people run 1/2" hose with their 12V’s. Some do 5/8. I dont think really anyone runs 3/8 with it.
PW will rinse faster than the 12V. Some guys apply with 12V, and rinse with PW for a 2 man crew. But if it’s only one person, I would just downstream and rinse with the pressure washer.
The pressure tek pump for 130.00 ish and 200’ of 5/8 hose is what I bought. They sell it as a kit for what I consider cheap since you can pay for it with one roof job I paid mine off in one roof.
Here’s a video showing how you can modify an xjet to use different tips, and lower pressure.
@tireshark have you done this modify. I’m thinking about doing it I was wondering what you thought?
Do you think I can put a quick connect after gun before xjet instead of what you did ?? Or is there a reason you do it like that?
Don’t see why not. I just wanted to avoid all the “wiggle” that the qc has. Plus this gun is strictly only used for x-jet. So other than the qc after the xjet, I have no need for any other qc’s.
Thanks dude I’m building mine when parts get here I’ll tell you how I make out with pictures
